Yes, they get pretty damn thin towards the edge on the comp cutters.
But your making this too easy for me bud....
First you need to try out a PROPERLY applied V edge on that BK9 before you can make that assumption
Of course once you sharpen a stock knife up to a mirror polished convex it performs better.... Take a BK9, stock, and put a properly applied mirror polished 17° per side V on it and then tell me it doesnt bite deeper than a convex edge at the same edge thickness swung with the same force and both with perfect technique.
Now if you happen to torque the knife in the wood.... Then a convex will bet better off due to more meat behind the edge. Its definitely a stronger edge and more easily maintained, id never argue that.... But saying one performs better in both slicing and chopping.... Come on now... If that was the case, all knives would come with convexed edges. Makers still using V edges wuoldnt be able to sell anything. Both are being sold because both have the ups, and both have their downs...
BUT the major ups for convex is easier to apply/maintain and stronger, NOW THIS is just fact, but saying either is absolutely better than the other for both chopping and slicing is LUDICROUS![]()
Let the flaming commence![]()
You make a lot of good points.
I can sharpen a stock BK9 with a perfect edge. 20 degree, 17, 15...
Thinner will out chop thicker. I'm not assuming.
If I take that same edge and convex it properly, it will out chop and out perform the V edge.
That's just the way it is. (For me and my experience...)
By the way, I'm out in my backyard with my Siegle Bushcrafter. It has a wicked 15 degree V edge that I put on it.
Funny. I like that the "American" Tomahawk Company has a label that says "Made in China".....still and all, it was cheap and it's fun to throw. I'd get another, but the place I bought it still hasn't replaced their stock after I bought mine....need to get two of the same for double throwing....

So, WW, do those comp cutters have a very deep, thin V grind?
My knife is sharper then your knife:foot:
Snark![]()
Talk is cheap!! Prove itHAHA
I'd love to check out one of those competitions.
From the YouTube vids that I've seen it's just amazing how accurate and precise those guys are.
Just because you put the knife on your belt doesnt mean you put the edge on the knife
We got any diabetics here that need a blood meter thingy? My wife brought a OneTouch blood sugar meter thingy home a while ago so i can check my levels... Im done with it, so if one of you beckerheads want/need a blood reader thingy let me know and ill send it your way. My wife only brought home a few of the test strips and needle pieces though, and i have already used those.... But it does come in a nice little case. Other than that i dont know anything about it really as im not diabetic....
Ill send it free to the first beckerhead that asks... But please only ask if you or a direct family/friend could actually use it. I was thinking of re-purposing the case, but figured this would be a better/nicer option.

Funny you should post this right now....my mom's a diabetic and I just posted a BK2 GAW to raise funds for the Tour de Cure I'll be riding in a couple weekends....
Very nice TBL. Which stones do you have? I'm in the market. I've been using a Smiths system but don't like the whole gadgety setup anymore. Just been using the stone thingies free hand and it works great on tweeners and smaller but it gets old on anything larger.
