Non knife people's AWESOME knives. Lol

Here's my definition of a POS knife: a flea market/novelty knife that has no practical uses. Or a knife that I wouldn't feel comfortable or safe using. My friend's knife was/is a POS.

So give him a quality knife dude! I think you got more than a response to this thread then is necessary

Wait.. one more thing... I am going to give him that knife, but really? Every time we see a crap knife, we - as knife guys have to GIVE them a nice one??

No.
Generally I don't mention it at all...but then again, I don't even know any of my neighbours names (I tend to mind my own business for the most part).

If it's a close friend, and you feel like it, then go for it! :)
My friend who had a Boker Magnum knife fall apart during use, I gave him a Benchmade (older model...I forget which).
He lost that, so I gave him a Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite.
If he loses or breaks that, he can get his own damn knife. :D

Maybe "thick skulls" was a bit rude...

I just don't understand how my statement was read by some to be a diss on Makita/estwing, getting beat up by carpenters, and other nonsense that I never said...

There's no book of etiquette on 'What to do When Your Friend has a Crappy Knife' (unless it's compiled from BF archives). Personally, I think buying a knife for another guy could be a bad idea. It's kind of emasculating. It depends entirely on the person, but it could be an insult deeper than words, if he's a proud guy, and doesn't care about money. You know him best. But there's no way you should feel compelled to do it. I won't be handing out knives... not my idea of 'helping the less fortunate'. Do it because you want to make the world a sharper place.

I'm giving him my LB7

Well, it isn't a rule or anything :p
It was only a suggestion, and we're talking about a friend. I've gave knives to family and friends that had a crap(IMO) knife, but I would be out of knives if I gave one to everyone I have seen with one.
We can't give one to all we see.
Keep the knife if you don't want to give it to him. If he's not a close friend I would probably keep it myself.

Fair enough. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding that got blown up a bit. :) <<<Emoticons do a piss-poor job sometimes.

Ditto Ken

I've always had cheap knives, never really gave a knife much thought. Until last month. I asked a fella at work if I could use his knife to slice some paper. Sharpest knife I ever used, found out it was a Benchmade Barage.
That started a whole new I guess hobby for me.
The next day after I used his knife I picked up a CRKT, then this week got a mini Griptilian. And as I'm writing this I'm waiting for the postman to drop off my Spyderco PM2.

Yeah man, fights happen all the time on forums because text is really a crappy way to communicate. Emotions help but, only so much. It's just too easy to misunderstand or misread someone's intentions/point in text. We should all remember that and clarify before assuming anything.

The phraseology you used is pretty frequently associated with someone getting their comeuppance, often through violence. It seemed, at best, like a very odd disconect from the first sentence of your post.

Just the other day I asked a co-worker to leave the Gerber Paraframe at home from now on. I never would have said anything like that if I didn't have an Ontario RAT 1 in my hand to give to him.

Or a rock! :D
Paraframe is the only knife I got for free where I felt I got ripped off.

Perhaps...

I only have short breaks at work and often type things in a hurry, resulting in miscommunication; or a rude tone in this case:)<---maybe this smiley will help clear this up;)

Haha, the paraframe is actually the knife that brought me to Bladeforums. I bought one and carried and used it for a couple of days and thought "hmm, I obviously need some help with my knife purchasing decisions."

So the Paraframe is good for something. :D
