I was surprised when I found this at GECs website. Is this new to anyone else?

A single Wharnecliffe (spelled right?) blade in the 79 frame with a long pull!

It looks like this Northwoods will have wood covers! That's something I really wanted on the NW forest jack.

I wonder when they'll be available.
This has me more exited than I've been for a knife in a while. I guess I'm not done buying knifes.

Oh perfect ;) my favourite frame and blade shape in one? go figure haha, thanks for the tip, I'll start skipping lunch every other day for the next few months :)

I wouldn't call that blade a Wharncliffe but then maybe that's just me.

I agree ED, it's their standard sheepcliffe/wharnfoot, what I call a 'tweener.
And I also agree with pmew, they sure put the pivot at the wrong end of the frame.

The line drawing looks more wharney than the unground blade

I still like the blade, even if it has a different name.

The #79 from GEC with at least two blades has the main blade on that end of the frame. I don't think it's going to be a problem for me.

Gary, you have at least one #79, does it feel the main blade is on the wrong side?

No problem John, you're 4th right now :)

and Sogflash, both of my 79's have the main blade at the wider end, for me, I prefer that for sure, as the sleeveboard widens it gives a bit of security for your grip, but it's very slight plus having the main blade allows for a wider tang which gives a wider blade also.

On the three blade 79 the main blade's tang is .6" and the smaller blade is .5" so it's a marked difference.

I think I would prefer the blade on the other end of the frame.

GEC has "flipped" other frames to create patterns with main blades on either the smaller or larger ends (the #57 iterations come readily to mind, as do the #25s/#26s, but I know there are others), so I hope they do so with the #79.

This upcoming Northwoods looks promising, but I'm with those who would love to see a #79 jackknife with the blade(s) pivoting at the smaller end.

Picture something like this (with a main blade proportionally larger to fill the frame):

Oh, la.

We had them do a slightly different blade shape than they have ever done. I think it will rock!

This will be the last of the rustic looking Northwoods for a while. There will be more at some point, but the next few coming through will be more "normal."

Derrick is the congress or a congress still in the works? It was up for about a day on GEC's site, then disappeared?

Sorry if this takes the focus off the main point of this thread, feel free to PM me if you think this will derail this thread.

In responding with my hopes for yet another iteration on the #79 frame, I didn't mean to imply that this upcoming Northwoods knife won't, let's see, "rock." :)

I've really enjoyed this rustic line.
