Northwoods Broadway Jack Review

Is there a reason why so many of the GEC made knives have one or more handle pins sunk so deeply ? Other than the hole collecting dirt and becoming a germ garden, my concern is that there is less handle material for the pin to grip and easier for a crack to develop. It is the smooth handle covers that seem most likely to have these deeply sunk pins.

I've been curious about that too. Good question.

Indeed! This is one of my peeves with GEC. I have not noticed that smooth handle covers are more likely to have deeply sunk pins. I basically expect GEC knives to have them, but I don't know why they do it.

Mike Latham has stated that the pins are all pre cut to a certain length so variation in cover thickness accounts for the pins that are deeply sunk. I don't buy this. Some of my GEC knives have all handle pins nice and flush with the handle covers and these covers show as much variation in thickness as the ones with deep pin holes. For some reason none of my Rough Riders have deeply sunk handle pins. Maybe a discovery expedition to the manufacturing plant in China is in order for a few of the GEC folks ?

I have noticed this on a few of mine but it has not bothered me. All of the other details are spot on and I thought the pins sunk at different depths was normal. Regardless I absolutely love this knife, and it makes me happy to support GEC and KSF. Looking forward to more pictures of the ivory and the other covers. Would love for folks to show each type

Sounds like the perfect knife, Drew. The ivory looks great.

The ivory knives are absolutely incredible! Congrats, Mike & Jake & Drew!!:thumbup::thumbup:
I don't have much experience with saber ground blades; how do you gentlemen like that grind on your Northwoods?

Having owned 4 total, I like the thicker blade steel and I find it pretty easy to sharpen too.

Decided to pull the trigger on this one - I've been so impressed with the Fremont in Ivory that the 15 was almost obligatory...should have it by Monday at the latest :) Thank you Derrick for offering such awesome cover materials!!!

:thumbup: Can't wait to see your pictures David, you got some skills with a camera.

After the praise by the few that have this knife in hand and wanting a Northwoods for sometime, I just ordered a blue camel-bone version; can't wait!

I have been wanting to pick up an ivory to carry for sometime, have always wanted a Northwoods, big fan of the #15 frame. I guess the stars have finally aligned, Broadway Jack on its way
