Noss D-tests the Skinny ASH1

Oh goody, another choil discussion! :D

As for me:

- GW: horrible choil, horrible - the knife would be a thousand times better without a choil
- BATAC: not as bad as the GW choil, but bad still
- NMSFNO: okay, now, this is the size where a choil becomes actually very useful
- FBMs: if these things didn't have a choil, using them for smaller stuff would be, for me, nigh impossible.

In general: no choils for small knives, big knives should have one.

I just looked through Noss' field test of the SASH. Looks like Noss and I agree on the butt of the handle being painful in chopping. I wish he had tested an NMSFNO. That one has a really ergonomic handle.

I think Noss's tests are stupid.....get mad at me if you want. I know Busse knives are tough because I use them and yes abuse them myself (not like Noss). One of these days Mr. Noss may severly injured himself during his testing. Not a fan.

It does not matter what in this world we do or say there are going to be those who support and those who oppose. I appreciate what noss does even if it doesnt seem to make much sense to some. It is a great way to make believers out of those who dought INFI and likewise. I would be interested in seeing how a Horton holds up in this test. I am sure it would do pretty good. Just my .02

Horton??
Who??
What??
:D

I am not trying to start any crap Lycosa, that would be trolling but you know that. I really like Jeremy's knives and think he is a great maker with a bright future being that he is only in his second year of knifemaking. I just like to see Noss's tests and would like to see how a Horton would do.

I know Broh. It's cool.
I've gotten to know Jeremy pretty well. Noss could have one of J's knives sooner than we think!

I agree 100% with you BFH on the choils being a real advantage on the bigger blades for choke holds and questionable on the smaller ones.

I have a BATAC LE and the choil on that does'nt assist at all. The knife is so thick the balance point is well back into the handle...no need to choke up for control at all and the extra length of blade it could afford would be very welcome.

My Jackhammer however feels great using the choil...so does my RMD...which is a small knife...my Skinny Ash's and Ash LE are less comfortable in that grip...I think the straighter tactical handles seem to lend themselves to a choke grip more on comfort...but it is "balance" which makes the difference. I would love to try a BATAC LE with an edge going as far back to the handle as possible. It would make for a "very tough" but controlable Bushcrafter....choked up on the BATAC LE feels like it wants to slip down out the back of my hand...there is so much weight in the handle.

My FSH however works wonderfully in a choke hold....not too much weight in the knife ....VERY capable of delicate work used like that....makes the FSH one of the best options for a "one knife" choice for me.

I wish the there was a BATAC-WC, I was thinking of that exact model when I wrote my comment.

We keep reminding ourselves that this is not 'real world' abuse being put on these blades in these tests but in most cases I don't see how you would ever put greater stress on a blade in actual use. No matter what, it sure looks like fun. I don't think he would find an ASH CG an easy blade to test to failure, he'd still be there beating on one of those!!

It would probably do just like a Chris Reeve or a bb shsh for that matter when you hit it with a hammer clamped in a vise!! A-2 makes a great knife!! But it is not INFI! Most A-2 knives don't do well! I would rather just use mine as knives! Thanks anyway I have nothing to prove to him.Noss and his bank don't have enough money to buy a knife from me!
I find what he does really disrespectful! I am not a factory, just a man with a passion for making and collecting knives! Everyone I make is special to me! I call and check up on them and stuff!! I guess you guys don't understand. That's ok, I really can't expect anyone too! These knives I make are tough users and most important part of my legacy when we are all gone from here, they will be here!! This is not about me, I'm just passionate about my feelings on this subject!! No biggie!! Back to the topic of the skinny ash 1!!

Well said, J!
One who thinks in the Eastern Mind-Set, would cringe at these D-Tests.
Like me.

I think the tests go too far, but I AM surprised at how many "good" higher-end knives die very quickly in these tests. They don't represent real-world use, but for some guys, it's close. Stabbing into wood, concrete and metal might be required at times for some. I'd like to know if a knife could handle that. And owning a Busse, while I'll NEVER get to that stage of use, it's nice to know virtually my entire collection is tank-proof. :)

I was VERY surprised the ASH1 edge held up that well during that test. WOW!

+1 on the knife world's anonymous version of Johnny Knoxville. Not a fan. But as one wise man said, "it keeps him off the streets and out of the bars." :D

+1, if he would just take the silly mask off I may watch one of his vids. I dought it, but I might could at least get through one.

I'll never even open a link of his testing untill he explains the mask, so someone tell me if he ever does one without it. Sure you need one for some parts of the testing, but not all of it.

I mean you no disrespect Will York, your a great guy.

Just like many shows, it is entertainment. I don't care for it, but I didn't care for Jackass either.

Me either. A little too much stupid going on in that show. I will say, however, that I'm glad to hear that the ASH-1 held up well. Mainly because we won't have to bear the same hand-wringing and poop-slinging that has gone on in other subforums after one of these "tests." :p

Maybe he's just really ugly

I wish Cobalt would have worn a mask when I met him :grumpy:

I hope Horton rents one for Blade 2009

.

Lol. I could be like Amy. "It puts the A BM1 in the basket"

I know I look amish!!

I'm gonna shave! Gravel is clean cut! So I guess I don't want anyone thinking I'm him!! Or I may just wear a lawyer suit! Or a ET costume!! Lol

I think I'm going to wear a hockey mask up to the Chris Reeve booth just to see what goes down. :D

You'll get mistaken for Bigfattyt in the first instance. And KAAK in the second instance. :D
