Noss Hog will be testing a basic 9

okay...how about "out-of-control destructive testing"? Actually, that does sound even better...

I dont have one and the prices may sky rocket,

Will, that sums it up perfectly. :D

Seriously, if it was a knife you donated for kicks and giggles, more power to you. Maybe something of interest will result.

I’m sure if Noss takes the B9 through the same battery of tests he applied to the Scrapper 6 and FFBM, we will learn significantly more about Modified INFI than we’ve known. The only real stress tests I’ve seen applied to M-INFI were by Cliff on his Basic 7, and unfortunately most of the seriously stress-inducing tasks he performed were more anecdotal than controlled—including that knife’s final demise. I’m looking forward to Noss’s test for exactly the reasons I offered above—nothing silly or giggly about the loss of a Basic 9 in my book.

Now, the idea of getting down to brass tacks in such a brutally forceful, final way does make me smile. Course, I WAS born a Southern boy.

Edited: Kenny, the mask seems kind of silly to me. I exchanged a couple of "less than pleasant" PMs with Noss4 a while back, but never got a satisfactory answer as to why he wears a mask.

Yeah, I don't get it either, but he may have a good reason:confused:

Why the mask Noss?

Mask = Slipknot = Friday the 13th = Horror = as in the horror Noss puts knives through. ;)

As far as being upset at seeing a Basic 9 destroyed while I agree it is sad IMHO it is a better fate than being a safe queen. Not that Will was going to make it that.

I have it on good authority that Noss 4 wears a mask to conceal his face, which was horribly disfigured in an unfortunate smelting accident. And maybe he isn't interested in the idea of being hassled on the street by haters. As his fame and notoriety spread. ;)

I personally enjoy his tests. Though I understand why some might take issue with them.

As for testing a Basic 9- why not? It's not like it's a Faberge' egg or something. And there's nothing wrong with further bolstering Busse's reputation for gonzo, over the top toughness. (which is what I expect this test will do) Nor is there anything wrong with increasing values on the secondary market.

Smash on! :thumbup:

I'm sure there are guys combing the woods of Canada at this very moment just waiting to put a hit on Noss4 for the Cold Steel he broke. :cool:

If he's actually scarred, that's nothing to be ashamed of. I've actually never read anything about this before.

I've never quite gotten past Noss4's early posts here, though he has calmed it down considerably since then. To each his own.

Sounds cool to me although I'd definitely like to see a current model with thinner stock. It would really get people's attention then. This may just have people wanting a knife they can't afford and/or can't find and I'm not just talking about myself. Besides I'm sure plenty contribute the success of the FFBM test to the thickness of the stock and not the steel, HT, or overall construction.

Will, I was born a Southern boy as well. Still am, by the grace of God.

And you'll pry my cold dead hands off my Basic 9 when the smile is frozen on my face. :D

Hey it is you knife you can do what you want with it... But I'll never see the point of busting an old knife.

1) ‘cause I asked Noss if he’d like to bust one of mine up, and he said “Absolutely!”;

2) ‘cause he’d like to see what happens and so would I—and since the Basic line was the only attempt I’m aware of that Busse has made at a mass-distribution marketing program through other retailers, at the lowest price-point for a Busse product we’ve ever seen, there just might be a few thousand other Basic owners out there who would like to see what happens, too;

3) ‘cause I’d like to know once and for all how Modified-INFI stacks up against INFI under controlled destructive testing, before skyrocketing collector prices for Basics makes the prospect untenable;

4) ‘cause it was my knife and I have some more; and finally...

5) 'cause the whole idea just makes me :D:D:D:D:D:D:D ...smile.

Not to detract from Will's test but one point I think some of you guys nailed, especially Murdok, is that many attribute the "toughness" label Busse has to its thick blades. So a thinner stock would definitely be what many want to see. Something to think about for future tests.

Well, Jerry has basically said as much, at least in terms of prying. I don't remember the exact threads offhand, but I do remember at least a couple where this idea came up. When the bony ADs came out, there was some explicit language about the knives being slicers, not pryers. The other thread I'm remembering had to do with thickness and a rationale for not making one particular model too thin. Maybe someone else can help me out with a link.

Anyway, it's just common sense. If you want to snap a knife by putting your weight on it, you're going to have better luck with a thinner blade.

If I want a knife for supporting my weight or for digging a ditch, I'll go with the .320 stuff, or maybe a nice .340+ MOASH. If I want to slice tomatoes, maybe not so much...

It is a shame to see such a beauty destroyed.

Will,

I would like to get dibbs on the broken pieces of whatever that is left of it.
