Not a flame, but Why is a Sebi better than my Mil?

Really! My Spyderco Mil is a very nice knife, CPM440V and G10. The fit and finish are first class. Heck I paid just over $110 for mine. What does a sebi cost nowerdays? Or my 710 in M2 steel? Axis lock and M2 tool steel for the same price! I will sooner or later get a Sebi, but wow! They are a rip off in my opinion. CRKT S-2 is similar and costs a lot less. I think the Sebi is the best non custom 'show off' knife. It is a great looking blade, but is it really worth the price? Do NOT see this as a flame. I do want one, in fact it will be my next purchace but is it really worth that much cash? Or are we all fooling ourselfs into parting with cash to be an owner of a super expensive knife? What was the name of that king who walked naked because he believed he was wearing invisable cloths?

Burn the infidel !

Heh, just kidding. They aren't for everyone.
I had a Spyderco Military. It was a nice knife, but IMO, did not open smoothly, did not have a nice and sturdy feel.

My sebenza's, in contrast, are very smooth, have a very nice feel, and are confidence inspiring.

Try one, if you do't like it, don't get it, that leaves more for the rest of us.

I won`t get the chance to try one in the UK where would anyone stock one? At that price? No dealer would stock one... EVER!

The difference is, that with a Sebenza, you'll be walking around with a work of art in your pocket.

Why general, there are sebenza's in the UK... I sent a small wood inlay there just last year! I thought there was a Reeves dealer in England somewhere is there not? Hey ...why get a Rolex when a Timex is just as good but Cheaper! If you can apreciate the fit and finnish and execution of the design, they are worth it. If you are not at the financial level to buy one then your other choices make more sense... for you. The beauty of this sickness is we can have more than one brand and enjoy them all for what they are! Good Luck and Cherio's

Yes, it really is that much better. Cheers.

Fit, finish, materials, design, execution, performance, durability, reliability, feel, and other subtle details will give the nod to the Sebenza.

But seriously, all of the foregoing.

General:
Get your hands on a Sebenza, then tell us what you think. After handling the Seb, all other knives seem like junk! Even customs have a hard time comparing to the almighty Seb. But be prepared, once you buy one you have to buy and buy and buy, I see a wood inlay in your future. You may laugh now, but remember who told you first.

If you MUST ask the question, the answer is probably too elusive.

Suffice it to say that in addition to what everyone else has related, The Sebenza just plain cuts better than any other knife in production.

If the price is that much of an issue, perhaps something from Pakistan...???????

One pays for quality. ("Ripoff" indeed!

Buy JUST one... and see!

(If you buy right, you can always sell it for almost what you paid for it on BFC.)

WARNING: Buying of Sebenzas may be habit forming...

PS: Blame Gorden Brown for any additional cost.

Hi Ken ,
Greenjacket is right, Framar Hammerli
usually have a good stock in and as you are in Manchester it shouldn't be too hard for you to get up there and handle a Sebenza before you buy (and you will buy can assure you)
Also a good selection of fixed blades to view too and Frank is always up for a chat .
You will pay a bit more but I always try to support my local ( read one and only UK)dealer.
This is the only commercial spot I know where you can go to see and handle high end production and custom blades. If they go out of business then we will all be a lot worse off. All my CR products have come from Framar (except for the old Jereboam I got from a mate.
Bye for now , Paul.

The comparison you are making is like comparing your Axis, Military, AFCK to a Buck, Gerber, Puma or Schrade. You have already taken the first step up in quality.

Does your Axis cut better than a Buck 110, does the Military really cut any better than a Gerber. The AFCK cost is about 3-4 times what a Schrade would cost, does it cut 3-4 times better, Is that Benchmade a ripoff.

You are at stage two with two stages to go. Stage 3 is high end production. Once you hit stage Four you are a lost cause because that will mean more high end production and custom knives.

Some people are content to stay in stage 2. I urge you to stay where you are because it only gets a lot more expencive.

I wasn't planning to buy anything that day until I held a small sebenza in my hands. Once you handle one, you won't have to ask anymore questions :-)

Hi there General, Greetings
biggrin.gif

Point #1 - The Sebenza is the Hummvee of knives.
Point #2 - I compared a Benchmade Pinnacle mono lock to MY large plain Sebenza-the result-there is No comparison.
Point #3 - The Sebenza is a work of art: class, beauty, & function.
Point #4 - buy what you personally can afford to spend.
Point #5 - After you get a Sebenza, get a Graley sheath!

Good luck to you sir !

I am a fourth cat collector (well 3rd cat, as that is custom knives CRN are 2nd cat knives a factory knife is still a factory knife even with a custom price!)). My next knife will be either a custom damascus steel folder from Steve Rollert or a Sebi.
I am also getting a Talonite fixed blade from Steve soon.

Lets forget that this is about me being poor, I am not that poor
rolleyes.gif
. It is about a factory production knife costing close to the price of a good custom. I disagree that there is such a thing as a third cat in this case. The Sebi is only an overpriced second cat knife. Yes it is overpriced and the owners are in a close group, this is true. Yes I am sure it is a fantastic knife, but worth the price, hell no!
tongue.gif
Well maybe? It is more about being part of the club? Maybe when I try one I will feel different?

Yes my Axis is 4x better than a Buck 110 no contest. Vastly superiour fit, finish materials lock etc etc. Can the same be said of a Sebi vs Axis, AFCK, or Mil? No way!
tongue.gif
. The only reason I want a Sebi is for??? Well I am not sure, it looks nice! I will be one of the few to have one and well it is probably one of the best and most expensive factory knives.

i have a friend that i get knives for on occasion. iam his internet. he simply does not have the interest to bother. although he DOES have the money.he has nearly $30,000.00 in knives!!!!! he likes production and custom folders. he used to tell me the sebenza was over-rated.now that he has a couple(and carries one every day)he does not say that anymore.
smile.gif
until you have handled one, you really are'nt qualified to argue both sides.once you have handled one...you will see there is nothing to argue!

general.....the sebbie is not a rip off...i too was skeptical and bought one that had been pre-owned (read used) and have picked up several since then....i carry a small sebenza on a daily basis and i USE it....the fit and finish as well as the tolerences and quality control are definitely several grades above anything that spyderco or benchmade has ever thought of producing and yes i have owned and used dozens of models of both brands and carry spydercos as a second knife on a daily basis....imo the quality control of benchmades are way off from what they were several years ago....i have the distinct privilege of being able to handle and examine and USE dozens of different knives on a monthly basis....you really get what you pay for in a chris reeve product...its just like everything else--you can get a bmw or you can get a chevrolet--both are cars that will get the job done and will get you where you need to go but one is made to much higher tolerences and the fit and finish of one is heads above the other and you pay for that....same goes for firearms, watches, tools, medical equipment,etc....just my 2 cents worth...thanks...feverdoc
