Isn't that called Lowballing....

Perhaps your are right. To Post I'll take it and then haggle is Lowballing.

Nevertheless, from my perspective the deal was done with the only detail to work out being the price as shown or additional cost of express shipping.... And on that I was waiting to hear from the buyer. The screen shots of our PM show him shopping around fro another Sayoc....

What I see is a an offer to buy at terms other than what the Seller proposed. No deal unless the seller agrees expressly to the new terms.

The buyer's offer was "620 delivered express tracked post?" [emphasis added] Unless the seller accepted that offer, there was no deal.

Offers different from those stated in the seller's solicitation of an offer are routine. See "bargaining."

The buyer's offer being made, the seller can accept, reject, propose a third set of terms or simply move on.

Hi Thomas.

My interpretation: I'll take it at $620, please send your bank details for transfer. The shipping is express?????

My response: Great, Here's my bank details and the shipping price is standard. Do you want express??? LET ME KNOW!

Lowballing is to send an insultingly low offer. I list my Sebenza for $375, and you offer me $200, that's lowballing. If you were to offer $340, that's just plain haggling.

Haggling after posting an I'll take it is just plain bullshit. I don't see that Aussiedude did that.

aussiedude.

You accuse me of lying. hmmmm

My understanding of our transaction is as stated in my post above. You have been online almost daily since our PM's...

FYI Regarding my research prior to coming here: Which reenforces the title of this thread.... Use caution friends.

You replied with a counteroffer. Unless buyer expressly agreed there is no deal. It is polite to respond, but there is no duty to do so, just as you had no duty to reply to his offer of different terms. Until there is a meeting of the minds on a specific set of terms, there is no deal. You could have accepted with words or by shipping the knife according to his last offer.

While I don't think there was a deal. The problem is Seller thought there was a deal. Buyer didn't think they had a deal, so he wasn't going to be doing anything. He certainly wasn't going to pay. At some point the seller 1st needed to confirm that he was accepting the deal and ask for payment. You can't accept with details still be worked out. When he didn't get payment he should have followed up to find out why.
Again I think the 2 of you had a misunderstanding, and need more and clearer communication. When in doubt what someone is saying ask to be sure. I recently have been getting offers-like will you take $ for it-I can say yes and never here from them again. So now I say yes please confirm we have a deal and I will send payment info.

As for negotiations and trades - you are going to get offers no matter what you say in your ad. You just have to politely decline and move on if you aren't interested.

It should be noted that the way the buyer phrased his offer was also confusing.

L_W seems to have summed all this up in a few lines as well as adding two or three salient points that neither of our two protagonists seem to quite grasp.

What I see here is a couple guys that didn't work very hard to get a deal done--one of whom got his panties in a bunch and started a thread that we've now wasted about three pages on.

I'd really rather spend my time reading and writing about knives instead of about two guys that can't figure out how to buy and sell them. Every time I get into one of these I kick myself and leave shaking my head.
