Novelty survival knife lol ACCORDING TO PEOPLE ON SURVIVALISTBOARDS!

Yeah, uhhh . . . not really even sure of the point of this thread. People on another forum called it a novelty knife, and you (OP) are making fun of it yourself, sarcastically. Sarcasm doesn't translate well into text. So, either you like the knife or you don't, but I'm not sure what another forum has to do with it. Based on the photo alone, it could be a good knife or it could be a novelty knife ala Bud K, but since you said it's a Frost Cutlery product, that almost certainly makes it the latter. I mean, I have a Frost Cutlery bowie knife, and by virtue of being a sharp piece of metal, it could hopefully cut something, but I bought it years ago because I thought it looked cool. If I posted a pic of it and someone called it a novelty knife, I guess that means they'd be right, because I didn't buy it as a serious collection piece or for utility value.

Here is a knife I like just one of many aside from by buck folders, smith and wesson extreme ops folder, and ken onion kershaw vapor II. I have the knife below headed this way it should be arriving today.

Not a bad choice. I would have chosen the plain edge stacked leather myself.

I used a Camillus MKII as a woods knife when I was a kid. Have an Ontario MKII/Fighting Utility I use when I am feeling nostalgic now.

I was making fun of the knife! IN a sarcastic kind of way since I got ripped a new one on survivalistboards telling me I was stupid for buying it and that it was junk and made in china and didn't have a full tang, etc.

LOL love the grimmace bro. Every once in a while ill buy a super cheap knife and abuse it to death.

This blade would fit that niche :)

Deleted. Just saw the link and see that its a $20 current production knife.

I don't see any reason for blowing OP's context out of proportions,he just added his two cents to BF in form of thread, he was curious about,to know reactions,or make some friends to chat with...

Related to knife he is holding and any criticism towards its purpose of "survival tool"-EVERY KNIFE THAT YOU HAVE AT YOUR DISPOSAL -WILL BECOME SURVIVAL KNIFE IN EVERY LIFE THREATENING SITUATION,-very same apply to word "weapon",,,,,every substance, every material, liquid, gas, etc included paper, can be turned into effective weapon,if one is aware of this and knows how to turn ordinary things into weapons....

Truth however is people are killed daily in weapons rich environments, because most of them fail to comprehend what weapon means and are unable to transform ordinary things into them.Only and most important definition of this failure is the way we comprehend and understand our surroundings...

Example of life threatening situation during assasination attempt on two guys in same scenario: both empty handed ("unarmed")

One man will be convinced himself defencless and will die, because his understanding of weapon is not correct.Another man in same situation will consider himself fully armed by number of weapons which he will succesfuly use with best of skills...he will live.

Key between being alive and being dead is very simple-the way we look at things.

Just my two cents

First of all, welcome of course.

Second, you jump to a lot of conclusions. You assumed I was making fun of you. I wasn't.

You came in and said it was a "novelty knife" that you were "making fun of it". And I pointed out that the members here that favor and use knives like that probably would not appreciate that.

Now that you have gone back and edited your posts to say that it is a "Novelty survival knife lol ACCORDING TO PEOPLE ..." and that you were "..making fun of the knife! IN a sarcastic kind of way since I got ripped a new one ...." I'm sure people get what you were going for.

But we aren't mindreaders and dont know/care what has happened to you on another site. Another assumption.

That said, enjoy your knives.

And on topic...that Surv Tac is only exceeded in its silliness by the Hellion. Utter knife design nonsense (but marketing brilliance) in my opinion.

I didnt assume anything really. Someone else assumed you were making fun of me. I could care less if anyone does. I have very thick skin.

It says china on one side of the blade and it has an aluminum handle with a screw on cap it is just like this knife.

That is not me in the video. It sounds like a young kid. Probably his first knife!

Wait...wut?

The one thing I can figure out is that you are confusing "survival knife" and "self-defense knife."

A "self defense knife" is a weapon primarily. A "survival knife"? That's tougher to define. It would appear that what was called a hunting knife, or an outdoors knife, or a field knife is now a "survival knife." Apparently every venture out of doors into nature has now become a life and death struggle for extreme survival.

Now a couple years ago, survival knives were "Rambo knives." The sawback hollow handle doohickeys like our new friend here posted.

Hi.

The post I wrote was about misconceptions you may have about the usage of "survival knife" vs "self defense knife"

But you are dragging the thread off topic. The hollow handled knives are more a survival knife than an SD knife (hence then hollow handles to put survival stuff in...you dont need a compass in a knife fight! :)).

Self defense knife...not a survival knife....

Are you sure??? For me this "rule of yours" does not apply at all...(i will turn any knife into both of the above you mentioned,at any time according my needs.....I am in charge of my knife-knife i hold is not in charge of me!!!)

Thanks for your thoughts Marcinek

Baton with that Civilian, and I will gladly call it a survival knife. Until then...no. Sorry.

With all due respect,i was not talking, neither commenting on design of any knives....

I think common sense is essential tool at first place. What knife is designed for what purpose its usually very clear....Don't think there is need to say anything more in relation to this.

I don't mind the design. You're right; one does not need full tang for a knife to be usable in the woods. Also, some people like a sawback.

However, the grind on this particular knife ensures that, while it may split wood decently, it will never cut well compared to sleeker profiles. The steel used is undoubtedly of a quality that will dull quickly, which is not something I prefer in woods use. Personally, my knives have to stay sharp while being easy to sharpen so...carbon steel. I believe that the money would have been better spent on a Condor or a Cold Steel Bushman, but that's just my opinion, from experience using those items.

$15 didn't break your bank. If you like it, use it. If you just like the look, hang it on the wall and do some research on utility-intensive fixed blades. Kudos.
