Novelty survival knife lol ACCORDING TO PEOPLE ON SURVIVALISTBOARDS!

Yep Newt does a great job so do several custom makers. Sam Wilson does a terrific job too.

These are all Newt's work, I've got one more in the works from him, a special one for my oldest daughters graduation and commissioning into the Army gift.

Thats a whole fortune right there in four knives! Thanks for sharing these gorgeous looking blades! I see they have number of steel options, which is great, but speaking of costs, they are very expensive knives...i think.

The one on the left is a production Boker, and relatively cheap considering the complexity of construction. The rest are handmade customs, and priced like other customs.

There are completely reliable, decent quality hollow handle knives that can be had for $50.

The thing the OP posted is barely a knife. It is a knife shaped object, constructed of mystery materials in a mysterious way with obvious limitations just in the way it is ground. It is a toy with no purpose. You'd have to be a fool to choose to take that thing somewhere that you'd need a knife over even a quality $10 pocketknife. It is nice to be all inclusive about people's knife choices - but I don't see any reason to view the OP's Frost Cutlery purchase as anything more than a knife replica.

Every "I want a survival knife" thread OP requires that it can baton. So, yes, you are correct, it is a great test of what defines a survival knife among the members here.

Thanks!

except this thread :D

I hear ya, just thought it was funny.

I've never needed to baton to survive either. And I have never gone bto the woods and ended up in a survival situation, either. I must be doing it wrong. :D

While I don't really know what "survival knife" means (other than from a marketing standpoint) or why people need to baton to survive, I DO know that seriousbladenot's claim that a SD knife is the same thing as a survival knife is incorrect, at least in the language/lingo we share here.

And I just want to see somebody baton with a Civilian.:D

We must both be doing something wrong

Agreed about the SD blades. I've started to feel more an more like the baton test is the proverbial "will it blend" test.

Yea! Let's see someone demonstrate the Civillian's survival prowless.. ;)

I read a great review for the Spyderco bushcraft by a survival instructor. He didn't chop or baton anything. He push cut 3-4 inch saplings. Fire wood was gathered as is. Which is how an camper has ever gathered wood.

I know exactly what you mean, speaking of particular designs and blades,it is very clear that most durable, tough designs with capability to harsh treatment and included batoning shall be considered for surviving long time in wilderness.

What was my point however, scenarios of so called "survival" are countless and vary depend of situation we might be in and every single knife we will have in our disposal, will become our "survival knife" that will include whatever we can use, might that be a knife for 15bucks or folder actualy happens to be in our pocket at that moment and so on....

Of course, if there is enough time to make a choice-than i will surely pick one of the most versatile blades that are tough as hell and also will stand out in chopping, stabing, cutting capabilities...That aint going to be 15,neither 50 bucks blade, but best possible premium and tested blade out there,i will be able to afford.

Thanks

None of which has anything to do with self defense.

The best qualities of a knife used as a weapon are speed of presentation, number of cutting surfaces, ease of penetration and reach.

None of those qualities have anything to do with a survival knife.

Agreed. Self-defense knives and survival knives are different things in our context. I can certainly understand the confusion for a non-native English speaker, but this forum is in English and uses language very specific to us. It how we know what each other is talking about.

Survival knives are no more self defense knives than steak knives are. It is not their purpose.

If I had to "survive" I would be very glad to have any piece of steel with an edge.

Because , really, if you are going to die if you have knife brand/style x instead of brand/style y, well you will probably die anyway.
But I would die a much happier man if that sharpened piece of steel was a custom Mayo. :D

You can go back to context and read again-and again and make sure,again....i am writing in english buddy.
