Do you mean a royalty? And no, it's not fine (either legally or morally) to blatantly copy the entire design of another individual/company without their permission if you simply pay a royalty after the fact.if they pay a tribute( i think thats what its called) then it should be fine.
Legal proceedings, especially ones dealing with intellectual property as this one does, take significant time and money to pursue; the few months between when the MT proto was unveiled and the release of the Matrix is nowhere near enough time for time for any legal action KAI may be taking to have run its course.i did not know that, kershaw and KAI should have done something a long time ago then, since microtech had a prototype out a few months ago...

Yep, I saw your post right after I had posted my reply and edited it accordingly. I've left my response about royalties and legal proceedings since they may be useful to other folks who have similar questions.i have changed my opinions on this matter.
Copying one feature can be adequately addressed by royalties.
Ripping off the entire design is just wrong. It isn't just similar in some respects, it's a complete rip-off of the entire design.:thumbdn:
I sincerely hope legal action IS being taken on the matter. In the meantime, I would suggest trying to get a thread stickied on this entire forum. If Microtech can't be touched legally(as of yet, because our legal system is so retarded), I wonder if the loss of a few thousand customers would hurt them any? Hell, someone should make pamphlets and start handing them out at Blade or SHOT Show. If the law won't touch them, I'm going after their wallets.
As consumers, going after their wallets is a good idea. Avoiding the company blatantly ripping off another is easy enough. The really "money" is letting dealers/retailers know you won't be spending any money with them if they support a company with such an ethical shortfall.
Hmm... I was just browsing another knife forum and noticed 3 Matrix's were posted for sale by an individual and sold pretty quickly. Guess some people just don't care. The saddest thing is I bet.... no I know for a fact the Kershaw 0777 is of higher quality and the better knife. Hell, for one it doesn't have those horrible ugly proprietary screws Microtech uses.
Kudos to you guys for doing that.
An interesting theory, but I doubt the distributors would completely remove MT products from their sites unless they were compensated for it. A few thousand dollars of MT products sitting around collecting dust is a pretty big cost to swallow. This is exactly why I am taking my stand. Justice does not come in the form of a single payment, legal or otherwise. It comes from the masses taking action. If distributors got enough emails from formerly loyal customers stating that they will no longer support businesses who deal with MT products, then it would be possible that MT would actually lose distributors -that is justice. Anything less and they will get by just fine and nothing will ever change.

Maybe some dealers could halt further purchases of MT products and eventually phase them out, but I suspect it would take months before a dealer who has agreed to do that would finally stop listing MT products.
