Now we're talkin' (GEC "Courthouse" Whittler Photos - go to the last page)

Thanks again for the comments.

Here's a comparison pic of the #62 with a GEC #61 four-blade "Wharncliffe" version and the Case/Bose Norfolk.

I have to revise my rating of the #62's pulls from a '6' to a comfortable '7' after handling the #61 again. Also, one of my "tests" for good tang geometry and spring tension consists of pressing on the open blade's spine with my thumb to see how prone the blade is to moving while in use. The #62's blades don't yield to a push readily at all, in fact they feel unusually solid for a knife with such nail-friendly pulls. Once again, I'm impressed. GEC really nutted this pattern. I plan on picking up one or two more as soon as I decide on the scale material.

Thanks for posting these Rick, I'm really liking the #62 pattern.

I received my Snakewood #62 arrived today during lunch. I only had a few minutes to look it over but the F&F looks perfect! Snakewood looks rather amazing in person. I'll take some pictures tomorrow when the light is good.
Blade pull on both blades are a nice 6 with a nice smooth snap. A little more nail friendly than my GEC Dogleg which I carry and use quite frequently.

This just threw me over the edge. It is exactly the blade configuration I have been looking for, for many years. I totally lost it and ordered one. I go wacky over acrylics so I went for the tomato. Combine that with the blade configuration and I was a goner.

This one

My #61 Congress is 3-11/16" closed, so the difference between it and the new #62 should only be 1/16".

I'd be willing to bet that if they named this acrylic "Red Lava Lamp" instead of "Tomato" sales would increase by a factor of ten. :D

I picked up my #62 Northfield in Snakewood. Great F&F and the wood looks beautiful. Edge on both blades need some work before they will shave but that is no problem. Lighting was a little goofy but here are a few pictures.

Just got this today. Tomato Acrylic........a real beauty and got permission from Mr. Latham to use his picture. This is a terrific knife.

Never cared for congress patterns much, but I do like this one. Thanks for the heads up

GEC's best pattern. I have yet to get one of their knives but I am getting awfully close to getting one of those. Just amazing.

GEC's best pattern.

Bumping this thread with a heartfelt agreement - the #62s continue to be my favorite GECs.

Finally picked up a smooth ram's horn Tidioute after spending way too much time staring at the one Dennis posted. I love that rich butterscotch color. Based on my sample of one, the Tidi #62s seem a bit more snappy and tightly-sprung, and sharper from the tube, as well.

Rick, our taste in patterns is a little different, but you sure get some PRETTY ones!

Lovin' the smooth ram's horn. Congrats.

Nice thread bump since I have my #62 snakewood in my pocket all day. I also just ordered another in rasin jig bone.

Thanks, guys. :)

Mike Latham was very helpful. I told him what kind of smooth ram's horn scales I was looking for, and he delivered the goods.

Very nice!

one thing I do with my #62 is to take a fine pointed magic marker
and swipe down in the grooves in the bolsters, any excess marker
on the outer surface of the bolster will wipe off easily, just don't
wipe towards the scale material...of course!

Makes for a nice contrast with the darker grooves against the polished bolsters.

Rick,

These are some great looking knives. Where can a person buy a Northfield like the gray/cream colored one you show in the bottom postion in the three knife photo?

Chris.
