Now we're talking...

Looks nice. Would be great if it were a 410/.22 combo. JM2C. What's your take?

I look forward to reading your take on it, where will you post the review, or will it be in another SWAT article?

If I do anything on it, it will be for SWAT. Is there any other magazine out there? :D

Personally, I don't really see a need for something like that. You can easily pack any number of handguns in your bug out bag and if you feel the need to take a rifle, sling up and take a good one. You can always hollow out the stock on most any long gun for storage.

Also, IIRC, Marlin makes a .22 lever that breaks down if that is deemed necessary.

That said, you are the survival expert, and I certainly am not. I'm just a bit of a gun nut.

Point taken. I'm not a gun nut though. So, any time someone thinks out of the box on a light weight tool, I want to see what it's about.

Looks nice, but quite spendy. If you can find a Marlin Papoose, they run about $260

I look forward to hearing what you think about it Jeff. Looks like you can get an accessory fishing reel? Wild...

I just like the fact that someone is thinking out of the box and willing to put their money where their mouth is. Nowadays it's almost impossible for a small time company to compete with a large firearms manufacturer unless they're innovative. This type of thinking shows some class, IMO, even if the concept needs improvement. AT LEAST someone is doing it while most of the major firearms manufacturers won't even consider a "survival" rifle...and that's exactly the reason for my article that this company referenced when they sent me the email.

If Shon and us can ever get caught up, similar projects such as these are some of the things you will see. I doubt you will see guns from us but we have some cool ideas that are sound, but just haven't been produced yet.

I saw that posted on a backpacking forum a while ago. There are several things about it I don't like, but if you really want a long gun that's light, it might work okay. I know nothing about its reliability or accuracy, but it doesn't look like a comfortable gun at all. I'd probably just grab a Ruger Single Six and throw that in my pack, quite frankly.

A Marlin 39 does indeed break in half, but it's considerably heavier than this gun.

Honestly, a Ruger 10/22 is a fairly light and compact gun, especially with a synthetic stock. It would be a lot more comfortable to shoot and very reliable. You could even put a trigger kit in to replace the terrible stock trigger and still spend about half as much as this guy costs. I'm not terribly familiar with the bolt-action options out there, but I do know there are many very nice guns that would be even lighter and just as accurate, and probably even more reliable.

That said, it could be better than the AR-7 style guns out there, which seem to have widely varying reviews. I'd love to read a few good reviews of it before I write it off completely.

The lack of a trigger guard does not sit well with me at all.

:D Well I do fine my self flippin' through a few Tactical Knives magazines every now and then. I was just checking to see if the review would be posted on the RAT Cutlery website or if it would be a follow up article.

(I know this is way off topic but those business cards with survival instructions on the back were a great idea , gave a hard plastic one to my sister today to put in her flight suit, she's a flight nurse.)

Very interesting. I'm no gun nut (not yet anyway), but I'm certainly interested in seeing the development of "survival" firearms.

I think a survival gun should have a trigger gaurd. How bad would that suck to have your survival gun in an emergency, trip and fall and rip off the trigger on a stump or something. seems like an obviose week point

I'm not gonna judge this until I use it. Sometimes we get into a traditional mindset way of thinking and it keeps us from thinking outside the box.

Im a SWAT subscriber, and I look forward to this article. Looks like an interesting rifle.

SWAT is the best training, firearms and survival magazine on the stands. Period. They DO NOT play to advertisers, and the editor and publisher lets us write it like we see it. If you read SWAT then you are getting the writer's true opinion and not some skewed "review" based on how much the manufacturer advertises. Great magazine. I endorse it 100 percent. Subscribe.

Any other survival magazine recommendations, I am not familiar with hardly any besides SWAT.

Edited: Well there was one I remember when I was younger, a camping and hunting magazine (can't quite recall the title) that on occasion showed some trap making and shelter building.
