Now we're talking...

Not my flavor, but an interesting idea. I usually lean toward a single barrel break action shotgun, or small .22 pistol if I take a gun in with me. Something that light, maybe I'd be more inclined to pack it when I didn't think I'd need it. Springfield makes a small rifle with 2 barrels, the name escapes me at the moment, but the point is there is a market for the things.

As for cost, cheap or expensive doesn't really matter when your life is on the line. At those times it becomes a pure preformance debate. Doesn't matter if it's a $12 machete, or $425 gun. If an item has an advantage, there really isn't a question about is that advantage worth the cost. Unless it's a million dollar diffrence, if you may rely on something to live, the anwser is yes.

Interesting. It takes big nads for a small machine shop to invest in engineering, testing, and everything else involved in bringing a firearm to market. If it needs to be refined, their customers/potential customers will let them know and, if the company's owners are savvy, they will at least consider the feedback. This rifle is definitely geared toward a niche market and I wish them the best of luck.

Looks cool, but I also wonder about how comfortable it is. Only one way to find out though! If it makes good on what it says it is it ought to be one sweet rig!

Really looking forward to your thoughts on this one, Jeff.

I'm surprised so many of you guys are such harsh critics of this rifle already. It looks like a bad ass gun that's made to take with you when you don't think you'll ever need it.

It weights 16 ounces!!! Its light enough you can strap it on your pack for a long hiking/camping trip and not even know its there.

I gotta give these guys props for being a small company, having a innovative idea, and having the balls to sink money into making this gun. On their website the list MSRP at $425 so I'm sure you could buy it for a little over $300. Thats getting a sweet little survival .22LR for not much more than any other HUGE company charges...I find it amazing they can keep the price that low because they clearly don't have the manufacturing ability of Remington, Ruger, Marlin, ect, ect.

It falls into a very, very small niche market for firearms. Anyone outside of that niche is going to take more note of the obvious deficiencies, and not note the unique advantages in certain situations. This isn't a gun to take with you when you need a gun, and I don't think it's intended for that situation. This is a gun to have with you when you don't need it, and whoops, SHTF. I think a lot of the critics of this gun are judging it based on the former environment, and not the latter.

I love supporting smaller companies, be it for knives, guns, camera lighting equipment, breweries, slings, firesteels, did I mention breweries? But their being smaller does not forgive any lack of ability. I've got to say most are able to surpass the quality of mass-production, and def adjust to customer needs faster. I also enjoy dealing with someone who gives a shit, not some $6/hour flunkie on the telephone who'd rather you didn't deal with the company. But it still boils down to 'put up or shut up', no A for effort.

I think this gun is pretty cool, I was surprised they were in Logan, that's not even an hour from my home, I'm thinkin about droppin a call, and maybe drop by the shop and see how this gun feels. I'm just wonderin if you trip while carrying this gun in the ready position, on the trail if it will break when it comes in contact with a boulder. sp00kedd.

I love survival type gear no matter what it is and a new gun on the market could be cool. I hope to see your review Jeff,i heard so so things on the guns accuracy(beyond 25yds was crap shoot), but like I said hear say ,so I will leave it up to you to review and can't wait

Looks interesting, but definitely too pricey. A handgun would do if a person were to practice to be effecient.

Looks like an interesting concept. While expensive, it might be worth it.

I'm looking forward to the review.

Someone might as well do something like this. The Henry version of the Charter Arms AR-7 isn't all it is cracked up to be and Springfield Armory is totally disinterested in manufacturing the M6 Scout.

yea and the m6 scout prices are going a little crazy.... so obviously some one likes this nitch of the market enough to pony up 750+ for em....

but when you think about it , its very very hard to build one. just given what you have to do to make one... extream light weight , extreamly portable , rust proof, there is also a problem with barrel support. and a few other things.... i personaly wont pick up one of these but would defiantly like to see a second version ... especialy in a 22mag or 17 hmr that would kinda make me feel a hair better.... but these are all general statements till i take the plunge and see some first hand reviews.

im going to have to go threw and see what other ideas i can come up with... i might just order one.... and see if i can improve it... for my needs... and keep an eye out for other break down surv. rifles... i had a break down 10/22, with a wire folding stock , it was compact , but i think she weighted a ton. sence then i normaly just plan on using my ar15... she light. but it would be nice to have a compact fishing kit/ small game kit with a few auto reels set up.... for snares and fishing... maybe a net too... a shot gun of some form like on the m6 would be nice for other game.... that would close a decent amount of the gap for common game for me.

well still intersting topic. i wanna see some more =)

Go for it. I could be completely wrong but based on my knowledge of firearms...

You were over in the survival forum here advising that a rifle would be good to have in an urban survival setting without even considering the reality that you are going to draw fire from the National Guard or anyone else on duty at that time.

Obviously rifles are superior to handguns, armies don't issue sidearms to everyone, after all.

Sometimes a little knowledge can go a long, long way. Sometimes, you can know just enough to get yourself killed in a spectacular manner.

If Shon and us can ever get caught up, similar projects such as these are some of the things you will see. I doubt you will see guns from us but we have some cool ideas that are sound, but just haven't been produced yet.

Very interested in seeing what you guys come up with. I am very impressed with your product line and can't wait to see some of your "cool ideas."

Looks nice. Would be great if it were a 410/.22 combo. JM2C. What's your take?

I agree with the .410/22LR combo set up, also I prefer to have a trigger guard, just in case you get snagged the trigger on a branch or clothing.

I'm a fan of my Springfield M6 Scout - especially that I can shoot different rounds and shoot with gloves on if necessary.

Jeff, thanks for posting the link. The rifle looks interesting. I'll have to pick up a copy of your review.
