***NSFW*** Critical Blunder (Injury Warning)

well, I can't say I received this ghastly wound from a CPK product, but I was likely distracted by thinking about them when I punched my knucks into a chainring. In fact, this particular injury, after 25 years in the industry mostly avoiding it, was the inflection point in where I wanted my career to go. I had kind of soured on my business- not cuz I didn't love it- when I found out there was a horizon beyond which I could no longer maintain residency in the space I'd built my shop in. I didn't think I had it in me to move to another location, and there was really nothing available locally at the time, and it was right when the pandemic got seriously underway and most any option was fraught or dodgy.

So...I smoked my knucks against some guy's chainring and at that moment realized that I was going to get out and make a career in the cutlery industry. For me, I've had SO many mostly minor injuries, I've found that there is usually some kind of epiphany involved in the moment. Some times it's just the simple 'holy shit I made it' feeling, sometimes it's a more specific thing. Like a decision or whatever.

Wow, to everyone... some ugly stuff here..

Hang around knives long enough and it happens. I have 6 or 7 good cut stories, but not the likes of what I am seeing here. I was shot once too, that's no fun.

To the OP, glad you are okay, scars are cool and as long as they don't leave permanent injury always make for a good story. They do serve as a constant reminder. On an average day I handle a knife 30-40 times, after a while when you drop one you learn to jump back and let fate handle the blade.

Make sure you clean the detent on your folders. Laziness and pocket lint aren’t your friends 🤣
Ideally, put your knife in your pocket after you put your pants on.

Holy hell!! I can't tell you how many times I've thrown my coveralls on with a random knife clipped in the pocket. I'll be rethinking that....

Brb, gonna go clean the detents of all my knives.

Made me think that maybe Jason's one of the folks who should consider tip-down carry 😅

As someone mentioned, I don't know that I've ever put on a pair of pants THAT aggressively 😂

I can say that again 🤣

There’s a little more to the story leading up to the incident that should have opened my eyes to what could happen, but of course hindsight 🤓
I had considered changing to tip down, but the model is only tip up configurable.
I no longer edc it 😉

I just scrolled up a few posts a second ago (woman was also looking) and we both just about pooped our pants and threw the phone. Jason was that your post and you omfg nooooooo. Out of here.
Yep, happened about 4 years ago so healed up with some really pretty varicose veins 😍
Sorry for the almost poopy pants, at least it might’ve prepped you for the little one coming 😁
What’s weird is that it felt like a bad scratch. The numbing shots and the cleaning hurt the most.

That's one thing that rings true with mine as well. I've had a few accidental cuts with my blades. This one is the worst. But every single time, there is not much pain involved. Very mild or slight in every case. In every case, it has also been a shaving sharp blade. Always a quick clean cut. I can't really say if this is a good reason for keeping your edges that sharp or not, though 🤷‍♂️😂 If a dull knife is a dangerous knife, what is a ludicrously sharp knife?🤔

I'm glad to hear that your leg healed up well after that massive cut!!

Thanks and again, hope you heal quick!

I cut my lower arm to the bone with one of these. That "guard" is apparently for the blade and not the person. It was no longer welcome in the house after that. View attachment 2034601
Jo: I admit I googled it because I wasn’t sure what it was! Glad you didn’t lose any limbs/digits. Dealing with one blade at a time is hard enough in the kitchen!

Holy smokes! You just converted me. I'll never have a folder in my pocket before putting my pants on again!
That is an eye opener for sure. I took a bunch of my worker folders and shook them to see if the tips would stick out. I leave pants loaded with gear/blades next to the front door of the cabin in case I ever need to exit in a hurry because of a fire or earthquake.
