***NSFW*** Critical Blunder (Injury Warning)

2 blades and heavy. Also had it stored above my head. I guess it could have been much worse.
I have to admit my curiosity; being well aware that you're someone with waaaayyyy above normal proficiency in wielding more conventional knives/bladed implements, was this item a gift from someone else?

A search on YouTube for "Furi Froggy" pulled up ZERO videos of this in use, which is odd enough, to me. The few photos I found, showed people holding it 2-handed, by the bumps/knobs on the ends.

As someone who's been a fan of all kinds of knives since I was a kid, an Ulu is something I might pick up, but this thing wouldn't have made a beep on my radar even if I'd been aware of it.

Yes, my MIL gave it to me. I was doing a lot of cooking from Rachel Ray recipes and this was marketed with her name.

Ah. Did you ever use it before the mishap? (Cut to the bone is bad enough. I'm glad it wasn't worse).

As mentioned, knowing that you're way above average proficiency with a more conventional knife, it seems like that item would be more clunky in use (not to mention with 2 blades side by side, it just seems like an accident waiting to happen, simply from trying to wash/clean the blades after use).

It was thoughtful, but in use, I did not like it because things got wedged between the 2 blades and it did not mince/dice/chop the way I imagined it to be intended. I had already kind of decided I wasn't a fan. I guess that is why it was put up kind of out of comfortable reach.

Ironically I was reaching for ice cream dishes when it fell on me. No need for a knife at all. 🙄

Well that being said- ice cream is the king of food and if a sacrifice must be made….to ice cream it is! Really glad you didn’t get more seriously hurt.

Dang... one moment, everyone's getting ready for dessert, next thing... 😬

I guess there's more than one reason it's discontinued.

Can't fault Nate's mom, as most folks without the level of experience/proficiency that you and Nate have in design and use, are exceptionally uncommon. As such, they tend to rely on the marketing (promoted by the chef you like. Must be good).

Watching an Alaska Native Elder woman in her 70’s using an ulu to fillet salmon is very humbling! I was told by another elder with bad arthritis that she is still able to participate with fish processing at fish-camp because the ulu allows for using her arm more than her wrist and she does not have to grip it tightly. I find it very awesome that the same design has been around for so long (also that I was gifted one that is not a tourist edition). 😀

Rachel Ray could make pea gravel and bear scat soup sound good! 🤣

That is an eye opener for sure. I took a bunch of my worker folders and shook them to see if the tips would stick out. I leave pants loaded with gear/blades next to the front door of the cabin in case I ever need to exit in a hurry because of a fire or earthquake.

This is why 99% of my folders are Seki Japan made Spyderco backlocks. They are rock solid and aren't going to randomly open since they are close biased. I've had numerous PM2s and Para 3s partially open in my pocket. I am too scared to carry compression locks after too many close calls. Backlocks FTW.
