Nutnfancy

Like the OP, my intro to knives came from NUTN/CutleryLover. I've since been turned off to Nutn by his sometimes insanity and sound effects. Also, I don't have 30mins to spend listening to him jabber on about geopolitics/history/random other musings. Generally, I watch a review to see how a knife looks/feels and the reviewer thoughts about the knife. Also, I've noticed that often Nutn doesn't really use a knife before reviewing it. This seems contrary to the point in a lot of cases.
This is exactly how I feel.

It's undeniable a lot of people got into knives because of him and he speaks more to the general public than nitpicking snobs like us. He's helping the knife industry in a positive way. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

He's nutty. What more can you say? His videos have amused me in the past. I appreciate that. At least he isn't boring.

Not a big fan at all. That being said I'm not a huge fan of anyone in particular, I just try to find videos of whatever knife I'm interested in to get a feel of how it is.

To be honest, the only one of his videos (and I actually do like several of his) that made me laugh was his EDC video. Overkill is an understatement. He is a wound care kit from being a walking bug out bag with everything he carries. It just SCREAMED mall ninja.

I've only watched one of his videos so far but I found it informative as well as enjoyable.
Most reviews I've seen are rather dull but he has an energy or life to his presentation.

He is indeed a mall ninja and kind of silly sometimes, but his videos are very watchable and accessible to the public, which is why I support him. Also, unlike most people, I actually enjoy watching long review videos. They tend to give me a better idea about the product than the quick reviews. The longer and more informative, the better, for me personally. Of course, there is an extreme where people just ramble forever and get really boring, but I've never been bored by NutNFancy's videos, not even the multi-part 40 minute videos. he does fill them with useful information/comparisons and interesting observations.

It doesn't take a whole lot to make successful youtube videos. You just need a camera and a blowhard sense of self.

Fyi I started making my humble (and heavily accented :) ) review clips partly because in the past I've worked in training and I simply love to explain various topics, and partly to offer a "zero tactical interest" alternative approach to our hobby.
In any case, I can tell you that it is not easy to make an interesting clip. You need to prepare, do some research. You can immediately notice when a knife review clip was not prepared. I try to make my clips precise and give context.

Btw thanks for the friendly recommendations about my channel here in the thread. As i am preparing for a relocation for a two year assignment in Asia, i have little time now to make new clips, but more will come from time to time.

Back to mr. Nutnfancy. He has a completely different interest in knives than I do, and in fact our respective outlook on life couldn't be more different, but it must be said that the man is eloquent. Perhaps the most eloquent knife reviewer. I respect him for that.

Dagon, I've watched one of your videos (Sage 1) and thought it was just excellent.

I like Nutnfancy's reviews too. I've watched a bunch of them. Yes, his personal preferences are clear, but I like that. The sound effects and verbosity are real issues. But his reviews are no less "professional" than most. On the contrary, he's pretty well organized, if a bit talky. What I really appreciate, actually, is the fact that he places heavy empasis on light weight carry blades and ergonomics. And he's owned and used a wider variety of blades than most users. The main thing is when I'm seriously interested in a knife model, then long reviews are fine by me. Nutnfancy's not the last word in knife-dom, but I know his review style enough to be seriously interested in his opinion.

I ran across "Nutn'sPanties" reviews yesterday and almost fell out of my chair laughing. The parody is maybe a little bit mean, but awfully funny. And watching a real Nutnfancy video after that made me laugh even more.

Hey Dragon, are you MrDragon007 on YouTube?

Thnx for your videos, love them! It all started with your reviews on Laguiole knives, which may be a bit off-topic on this forum, but not for me.

If you think it's easy to reach the amount of views on youtube NutNfancy gets per vid, then #1 You're Dumb #2 You have special powers that if released on to the internet in video form would attract views.

Do you even know the view amount required to get partnered ? Do you know they make money from all those views? How many knife reviewers only get like 800 views a vid while Nutnfancy gets upwards of 50k-over 180k or more on many vids.
Sorry, didn't mean to bash your buddy. You're obviously emotionally attached to the guy. IDK, I see some of the dumbest things getting hundreds of thousands of hits. He fell into a niche and got lucky IMO. I don't buy the idea that he's some sort of genius youtube video maker. Or if that's something someone should aspire to be LOL. I've watched some of them, he's definitely no genius. More like an opinionated twerp that guys like you make famous. Thanks for that.

HOW YA DOIN?!!!

The people who think he's extremely goofy, silly, dumb, etc. would be very surprised to talk to him on the phone - he's a very clear-headed, intelligent guy. You gotta be a little different unless you want to always be mediocre.

I'm surprised to hear anything but positive feedback on nutn, especially here on an knife forum.

He has an account on BF, you'll notice he doesn't post here much. Not knowing what you are talking about doesn't do you any good on an enthusiast forum.

I am not surprised. The collective knowledge here far surpasses anything nutter thinks he knows.

Agreed, but I'm not questioning his knowledge vs BF's. No individual here has the knowledge we collectively possess as a forum. He is just another guy who enjoys the same things we do, and most of what I have read is just folks resorting to name calling without any valid point. It is immature IMO. We here are supposed to respect individuality, and that's all he is...an individual who may do things a little different.

Couldn't agree more. That he doesn't know more than thousands of BF's users is pretty much a truism. Is there anybody who does? Nutnfancy has been successful at exploiting YouTube to do knife reviews. Somebody else could become more popular if (s)he would just have the gumption to make and promote videos. Nutnfancy's popularity may be part intelligence, part right-place-right-time, and part hard work. No matter what, he deserves some props for becoming as popular as he has. Do I agree with him on everything? Of course not. But why is that important? I can still enjoy the reviews.
