As we begin to close in on the final design of the Busse Combat folder, we are getting down to the nitty-gritty. Which do you prefer? Thumb stud (low profile) or blade hole? What do you see as the advantages and/or disadvantages of both?

For those of us with stubby fingers the stud seems to be the only way to go. Damn Jerry, I thought I got up early:eek: You've already been on for over an hour!

Hail to the hole baby!

Better control when completing tasks one handed.

Forgot to say, I'm Excited!

I'll say thumb stud, but i'm privvy to both...oh yeah by the way, u realize since they are still in the "design" faze of the folder, it's gonna be a long time...:( ...but i can can wait oh glorious god Mr Busse!:D

I vote for the blade-hole. Doesn't catch on things, doesn't loosen, easy and inexpensive to make. After all, it's a "nothing" that does "something!"
I prefer a round Spydie-hole but YMMV.

The hole is the way to go if your blade shape/design will support it. The Spyderco Military Model showed that the 9/16" (14mm) hole works great even if the user has large/stubby fingers or is wearing gloves. This works great, good grip, holes work for "Right-ies" and "Left-ies", holes don't snag, and less weight.

I love the Hole on the blade. I have never found a stud that was as easy to open as the Spyderco hole and I agree the Military Spyderco is the easiest!!! I believe with your design capabilities, you could incorporate the hole to make your knife look great. An INFI folding knife - "How much longer to we have to wait?" Jerry, why don't you show us some teaser photos of your ideas and we can vote on the design? And are you really making a folder or is this just a teaser?

Contact Sal Glesser @ Spyderco and license the hole from him.
It's really the best way to go.

HOLE, definitely. But holes are not always round!! Several makers make them in other shapes that are very effective !!

Can't believe it.
Persoanlly I am fine with both. I guess the stud is a little bit more convenient to me.

Spyderco has a patent on a hole?!?

I'm amazed that the idea of a hole in a knife meets the criteria for being patent-able. I wonder if there is a patent on the doughnut hole.

My vote is for hole. Easier for me to open, doesn't catch on things, more comfortable in the pocket, lighter, one less part of the knife that can go wrong.

I think there is going to be a big demand for your folder. Consider offering both thumbstud and hole, and giving people the option, so that they may go with their preference.

Hole.

See the Mayo TNT for almost the perfect framelock package.

I will get to handle the Strider SNG tomorrow at BAKCA. It looks to be about the same.

Yes, I know the hole isn't round, but the slot is pretty good.

The Spyderco patent has run out. They filed for the round hole as a trademark. In truth there are too many inovations in the folder market that Sal has brought to the table to short change him. The Pocket Clip is another nice thing we can thank him for while we are at it.
