I was going to say stud - but thats all I've used. Sounds like a lot of folks have good reasons for the hole. I just want one no matter which you use:D

I voted for the hole.

The only studs I've ever liked are on my Benchmade Mini-Stryker. I think Emerson uses the same type, with the circular stud attached to the spine of the blade. Its good for lefties and looks cool too.

I wasn't a big fan of holes until I tried the BM AFCK II. The Spyderco Wegner Jr is alright too.
Now I find it interferes less than a stud.
My 2¢...

Make mine a fat stubby stud!

...but LOW profile is a must on a tip up folder;) I've had too many tip up, studded blades that like to jump ship on my pockets while drawing:p:o:p

I do like the hole idea to some degree, but they're a pita when wearing gloves:mad:

The hole is the way to go if your blade shape/design will support it. The Spyderco Military Model showed that the 9/16" (14mm) hole works great even if the user has large/stubby fingers or is wearing gloves. This works great, good grip, holes work for "Right-ies" and "Left-ies", holes don't snag, and less weight.

Exactly :D

Hey Guys..

You are All wrong!!!

Do Both......Seriously...

Check this out....

Put the normal hole in the blade, and have two pieces that fit into the hole and thread together with Allen keys!!!

This could easily be done...

You sell the hole adapter for an extra $20-25.00...

Slick Huh..
Whatcha think ??

Bahahahahahahah, damn, that's funny! ROFL!!

LOL! I just spit Pepsi on the keyboard. :D

That's hilarious.

A "folder"... Yeah, right!

Jerry, you crack me up. Does Jennifer know you hang out with "Mabel" this much? :D

I definately say thumbstud as long as it's not this tiny "nipple of joy" crap that some manufacturers have been trying..... :barf:

Thumb stud:D

I like the Hole idea but the only holes that I like are the round Spyderco Hole and it's trademarked. Most if not all of the other knives I've seen with a hole look like they are trying to copy spyderco. I thought of a indentation in the blade like a hole just "not a hole", but, you guessed Sal's trademark isn't just the round hole it also covers a round indentation.

A stud a bit on the large size so it works well with gloves will fit the bill very well.

Go to the hole, it's more field friendly, less to "bolt on" the knife, easier to use with those thick-ass issue gloves(yuck!!) and could conceivably work as a blood groove, if you stick it far enough into somebody. As for the utility end of things, the hole offers better control and less potential for snagging. My two cents.

:D

i'd go with the hole myself. i think it would perform better under wet or muddy conditions.

but if the blade is a big heavy beast, a thumb stud will give you more leverage.

Stud all the way!

BTW if Busse were going to liscene anything for the folder, go for the Emerson wave. That is the way to open a folder!

I understand the whole hole thing but I think Daul beffy studs would be best on this type of folder.

Believe it or not, I was going to suggest the same idea about a hole that you can put optional studs in if you wanted to. Someone better better trademark that idea soon before it leaves this post!
