O.T. A matter of Respect.... A Rant!

yeah, it was too much josh, sorry.
i edited it.

I will say only one more thing:
Money. Money is all that ever really mattered in any of these situations.
Money is not a joke, but never forget its pervasive manipulations.

I am feeling unwell today, please forgive me if I was a jerk.

I have the japanese flu today. i puked so hard last night that my nose started bleeding into the toilet while i was heaving.
it was a real horror show.
Plus, you know, with this flu you blow out both ends.
Man, I thought i was gonna die. (I probably looked and sounded like it too)

Danny, I don't think you read my posts, or you've misinterpreted them, or I am not a very good writer and have not been clear.

I doubt any of us have gone beyond anything. I said men do these things to each other. I find blaming Christianity superficial.

munk

Danny, I am confused by your post to me. Perhaps you misread my post quoting what Bob W said to someone else about Christianity and his 'fellow believers?

I did not say Danny in Japan had not studied history. Since I'd quoted Bob W I assumed it was obvious I'd written to him.

Being ill is one of the pathways to enlightenment. No, I'm not kidding. It's listed in some buddist or Hindu text somewhere, probably Beoram would know, as one of some odd hundreds method. I sometimes cry when I'm real sick, and when I heal, my spirit seems healed too.

I'd like to return to slopping hogs for a moment-
I've noticed after hard physical work, it is very hard to hate anyone.

Or play a first-person shooter game. Same effect, less work, and a *lot* of dead zombies. :D

Dang, Nam, you must be wired different, or maybe better balanced. My oldest son and I tend to get frustrated or cranky, or merely obsessed if we play those games too long.

After hard work, or climbing a mountain, getting outside, I feel not only in more touch with myself, but able to love my family better too. Those video games make me a sociopath. "Go away; don't interupt me while I save the world from Orcs."

True!! The product of wayyyy too much Mountain Dew. I bleed green. :)

But, truth to tell, I prefer outdoors to almost anything. Surely you've had those moments outside, when you just feel it. You just know. The outdoors are my Nirvana, my ultimate, my whatever. When I'm totally immersed in the woods or something (which are scarce and getting scarcer in Iowa), I'm in my element. I just feel right. I needn't say more. :)

Blessed are those who try to show Righteousness and Love and Charity and Humility and Forgiveness toward others by being examples of those virtues to the best of their capability.

For those others who would rather force your beliefs down others throats ( or up the other end of their alimentary canal ) instead of actually living up to what you preach yourselves...

...on second thought, put that down as a "no comment" for the record.

Edit: for some reason I forgot to add Tolerance. I don't have much tolerance for those who are intolerant. You don't suppose that's a freudian slip? Nahhh...

In reality, and in fairness, "the" ACLU is really an umbrella for many local ACLU's. The locals do most of the suing. Our Ohio ACLU's may be atypical.

Examples that have colored my opinions.

For years one of our villages in NE Ohio has had an official crest that shows the old village square. One of the structures shown is a church - the oldest large building in the village. The crest is used on the shoulder patch worn by LOE's and on Village stationary. The local ACLU threatened to sue to force the Village to change the crest to eliminate the image of the church. The response of the citizenry was, "Over our dead bodies." Plans began to raise a "war chest" and heavy duty legal talent was lined up. The ACLU backed down.

The local ACLU has intimidated other municipaliites in this area to remove "religious symbols" and "religious language" from crests, coats-of-arms, stationary etc. by threats to sue. At a public meeting over such a dustup, one local leader asked the Executive Director of our ACLU if they could use an image of the Dollar Bill ("In God We Trust") on public stationary. She said, "Of course not." (This is a lady who takes herself WAY too seriously.)

Our local ACLU has floated trial balloons about stopping recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and eliminating display of copies of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence -- in schools and other government property, to be sure.

The ACLU in the Columbus, Ohio, area sued to force removal of the words "With God All Things Are Possible" from the State seal in the Capital rotunda. They lost. They appealed. They lost. They attempted to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Their appeal was rejected by the Supremes.

As for George Carlin, he's a funny guy. That he is free to advocate that all religion should be kept hidden away while his precious "seven" words are publically jammed down everyone's throat proves that this is a free country. Period. (He apparently would not have the support of the Virginia ACLU.)

The LA crest was changed recently because the mission shown on it- that historical landmark of the earliest Spanish settlement, had a cross. It was just one small image on the Seal. LA city council voted and decided not to fight the ACLU.

If the Liberty Bell hung in a church, it's probably not safe either. The Alamo isn't safe, is it?

munk

I used to hate the ACLU, because they fought for the legal rights of Nazis and other groups of haters.

But - I joined them this year, believing that they are fighting for our freedoms. I do not like some of the things that they do, but I believe that they are fighting to preserve our constitution and civil liberties.

Happy Holidays, and Merry Christmas to all!

Texas = California? I think not. :D

I think its all part of a healthy, dynamic democracy. Opposing forces and struggles in the public arena.
Trust me, you wouldnt want to live in a world where one side won and it was their way all the time and nobody ever argued about it.

I'm sure those Texas Boy's would take a dim view of messing with the Alamo.

By God, life is cheap out here on the Brazos! :D Don't mess with Tejas!!!!

The Roman Catholic Church excelled at integrating conquered
people's "pagan" festivals by making them holy days. Christmas is just one example.

I have no problem with manger scenes and such, but I do get
annoyed with 'tards spouting "Jesus is the reason for the season". Hokum. If Jesus was a real person, he was born in September- the Roman Catholic Church is "the reason for the (popularity of the) season", greatly enhanced by America's force as a cultural power, and the Santa image as popularized by the Coca-Cola Corporation.

John, born 25 Dec '71.

We all need more tolerance for differences in belief systems, and that is why I am in favor of separation of church and state.

I am not a Christian, but the most moving spiritual experience I have had came during a Catholic service for a departed friend.

I don't personally have a problem with public displays of religiousity, I lived in the South for many years. I experienced the imposition of the mainstream religion at public ceremonies at work where I was required to attend. I was not enthusiastic about being forced to "pray" at work - and I worked for a state agency. I knew a colleague who was fired for taking off from work for a non-Christian religious holiday. We worked for a state agency.

If the state imposes one religion on the individual, we may lose our religious freedoms. The displays of nativity scenes are no problem - I personally like them. I am just afraid that it would be too easy for the government to start telling us what to believe and which religion is the "correct" one.

I recently discovered that when my daughter was a child (she is now an adult) - she told other kids that she was Catholic. She did this so that she would have friends at school. She was convinced that if she didn't do this, she would have no friends - and there was a good reason for her conviction.

Intolerance is the problem.
