I missed it by that much. Does that make me a newby?

IIRC, the day I signed up, I spent reading through every post on these forums (as in all of it - every last word - all within a few hour). This place has grown some.

Hey!!
I'm still here. :)
I came over from Knifeforums also, I think I signed up on day 3 or 4--way back when.
Maybe we need a cool tattoo or something, so these "newbies" know who to respect. LOL

You in Nebraska or Colorado? I love the S2K. In '03 I test drove the BMW, M-B, Porsche, Audi, and the Honda. Granted some of those models now sport improved suspension and more power, but at the time nothing came close. (BTW the Lotus Elise has their pedals set far too close together for my 6E wide feet so that tiny super go-cart was off the table quickly.) The S2K provides a British sportscar feel without the unreliability of Lucas electrics, etc. As for the engine, '00 to '03 have the F20C 2 liter pumping out 240 bhp. That's more hp per cubic inch than any production car made to date. Old man Honda had this created as both a 50th anniversary model and as a tribute to their Formula 1 history. Everything is tweaked.

Americans are torque crazy and think every car should be a 1/4 mile drag race king. There is plenty of low end grunt for the kind of driving the car was designed for. BTW it is faster than my '73 Dodge Challenger in the quarter. But Honda caved and screwed things up by softening the suspension and bumping the engine to 2.2 liters giving the same bhp but a tad more low end torque all with an 8k instead of 9k redline. Shift points were also changed. The original 9k engine is still supplied in S2Ks to the rest of the world, and in my book still the best engine. This car is designed for handling twisties which it does with aplomb although in the hands of a novice can be a tad twitchy and prone to easy 180s in curves. The VTEC design is quite fascinating with hydraulics moving from a 3/4 race to full race profile set of cam lobes at around 6k rpms. Peak power is right up near redline. I've taken it on multiple road trips and have found it extremely comfortable. Passengers agree too :)

Yup it a beauty of a car and I have heard a few on the Track at Virginia Int. Raceway and they sound great unmuffled. and From where you live down to where I live is a great place to enjoy the drives in the mountains.

Lurking, still trying to find good deals and play with new steels. :foot::)

missed it by a little as well, but almost there, kinda like Max on Get Smart
I remember some of the good guys no longer with us,
Doc Walt, Jim Mattis, Rob Simonich, Rene Roy and one other knife maker
that passed away, in the woods if I remember right, he also wrote poetry
I think, as best I remember, but my brain isn't working right and can't
think of his name...

Bob, that Sebbie looks familiar! :)
and NICE car there!
Stuck here in Clearwater FL till Wednesday IF the tropical storm doesn't
smack into us and they cancel the flights!

I'm glad I could help. Mel was actually before my time here. This thread itself is a great resource for reminding us of the auspicious beginnings of Bladeforums.

Wow! 10 years. How many more went through the rec.knives/benchmade forum/recdotknives.com/knifeforums/bladeforums trail?

Still here, JM. (Miss spending time with you in Paris and here in the States.)

These days I'm much more into slipjoints and traditional folding knives than I was back then, but then again, they were always my first love as that was what I was introduced to by my grandfather.

Say hello to Sylvie and Fred for me!

Bonjour Elliot !
I got news from you through Ray Kirk ! ;)
In 1999 we got the opportunity both of use to test and review his Lil' blades.
And now he is a gifted Master !
How are you and Tina ?
Please be my guest if ever you fly to France again !
Any of you actually !

Cheers
JM

PS:I don't have any more direct news from Fred since 2005. But he's alright !;)

I signed up as Jackal2 in Aug of 99. Had a few posts then.
I 'got out' of knives for a while and just recently came back into them last year.
I always lurked here, checking a few posts now and then.
When I finally wanted to start posting again, I couldn't recover my password so
I started a new account.

This is by far the best all-around knife forum out there.

Merci, JM!

I saw Fred, (I believe) at the Blade Show a year or two back as I recall.
You are always welcome to visit us here as well.

Yep. I did the same path also. :)
We need a list of us that are still here.

Hello folks! Hey Bob! I never heard about your heart attack! How you doing? I keep telling people you got to smoke, stay away from vegetables and eat more greasy foods like I do. It's fun being in our sixties now isn't it?

I got out of knives completely for a few years out of boredom and BF seemed like a mad house. I'm now getting somewhat interested again. All my Carsons, Crawfords, Simoniches, (Russ aka "bladezealot" snagged my last two), and just about everything else is gone now. Still have a couple of interesting pieces but nothing like I used to.

Went and got one of those bone scaled "Micro Dyads" awhile ago and didn't like the quality and said so and sent it back to them. Also didn't care for the service I got and said so. All the guys over on the Spyderco Forum beat the crap out of me, (even Sal), and sent me packing. Sold it off. Spyderco still makes a decent knife but I guess the old quality I demanded back when BF started is over the top and that's my problem.

Still have a Spyderco Police Smoke sold me many years ago and a few of Mike Iries beautifully crafted sambar stag scaled fixed blades, (which I still think were some of the best bargains ever!), with G2's nice sheaths.

I miss Dexter as he was always a good friend to me.

Good to see some of the "old timers" still here!

P.S. Hey Baldy, what's that orange scaled Wharncliffe in you picture? I like that.
