If we are going to get a cabin we need to act fast. The weekend of 10/14-10/15 is the only October weekend available. It is two night minimum at $128 total cost for two nights. The cabin is rustic with wood burning stove for heat, no electricity and vault toilet. Cabin sleeps eight. I should probably make the reservation tomorrow. If at least four of us can commit to this date, we should probably go for it. I'll pay for one night if you guys can split the second night. Should I make the call?

Jeff

The 14th is a Friday, right? So it would be a Friday night, and a Saturday night? I`m not sure how that would work for the guys with jobs. I`m in if I can get a ride on Friday. I think everyone was thinking Saturday, then Saturday night, and come home on Sunday.

The Friday night might be a throw-away just to get the Saturday. Just show up mid-morning Saturday and stay until Sunday morning.

Hi Jeff -

I am in for half of the cost of the cabin - which means I will pay for one night.

best regards -

Jeff, I think I can do a quarter of the cost as long as at least four of us go, and the two nights are a total of $128, and not a $128.00 per night! If it is going to cost us $128 dollars for the weekend, Friday and Saturday, why don't we divide that down to the two nights, and then divide each night into however many people can come for that night! I figure the guys that don't have to work, and can get over there on Friday night, maybe we can all get together, and caravan over, or ride share over! If you and Andy have to work, then I will just plan to swing by and pick John up, and we can probably make it over on Friday, if that works for John? I don't have anything else going on for that weekend as it stands right now! So, I can make it for the two nights! It would be much better to have some electricity but, I guess you have to take whatever you can get sometimes! I do have a 100 foot outdoor, heavy duty electric cord, if there is electricity some place as close by as 100 feet! Everybody start thinking of things that we think we will need to take with us, and food that we will need for that time period, and we can all kind of decide what of that food each of us can bring! I'm hoping someone has an old cook stove coffee pot, so we can at least make coffee! I have to have my coffee in the mornings but, I don't think I have a pot in my camping stuff! And no, I don't have a pot to pee in either for all you SA's out there! Ha! Ha! Sounds like we need to get hot here though, because it seems to me like the months have speeded up for me anyway! Just let me know what everybody whats to do! We'll go from there! I'll be waiting to hear something!

Later!

Hey John, if Connie will make the Stuffed Green Pepper Soup, I'll make the ranch beans and bring them, some Freezer Pickles, some kind of beer, and whatever else I can handle, that comes up on the list of food we will need for the two day thing! I will probably wait for a few days here and let everybody think on these things for a couple of days, and I'll give you a call, and we can discuss some of this one the phone, if that is O.K. with you!

I can pay my share, however we divide it up. Can you cook on the woodstove, or is it just for heat? That would help determine what to bring to eat.

I have a two burner Coleman camp stove and a coffee pot that I can bring, so we are good to go with the cooking. I can also bring a small charcoal grill if we need it. I just want to make sure someone brings the 12 lbs. of bacon we will need! :)

Stuffed green pepper soup it is! Will 12 lbs. of bacon be enough?

Yeah Jeff, it would be good to know if there is something inside that we can cook on, just incase the weather turns bad on us but, I think Sean's little grill might come in handy too! I'll throw a couple of regular iron skillets, and a deep one in with my stuff! I also have a little one burner canned gas stove, that I can bring! I'm starting a list right now of what I will need to bring to be comfortable but, I can't get the kitchen sink out of the counter! Ha! Ha! I am with John, do you think 12 lbs. of bacon is going to be enough for all of us for two days? I can eat a few pieces, Yvonne and I can put away pretty close to a lb. just by ourselves, and if we get eight or ten guys around, we just might go through that in one morning! I guess first of all we need to know if Jeff can get the cabin reserved for us, then we need to get a list going of who all is planning to come! What we want to cook, and make up a grocery list, then let everyone decide what they can or want to bring on the list! I'll be watching the sight! I will also bring a large Igloo cooler so we have some extra room for cold stuff! I will make the Ranch Beans the day before and go ahead and chill them, then we can just us what we want of them as we need them! I guess I will bring my cook set and some of the other things I need to cook! I figure between all of us, we can get the job done! I can make sausage or bacon gravy, or maybe everyone would like to try tomato gravy, if I am still getting some tomatoes when that time comes along!

I hope the cabin has good ventilation. If we have stuffed green pepper soup and ranch beans, it could be a hazardous situation! I heard a lot of "ducks" flying over on Saturday!

OK. Sounds like we have John, Andy, Sean, Tom and Jeff so far. The cabin has six bunks, but we have tent space too. I also have a two burner stove and some Lodge Logic cookware. I'm going to pull the trigger on the reservation today and we can work on the details later in this thread.

Jeff

If them ducks bother you, just shoot them! Ha! Ha! I will be bring my Beano and gas-X myself, it works, and I don't have to go through those pains from either end! After they opened up my perforated bowl, I just about have to have that beano and some gas-X along with me! Something to think about! Or I guess you guys can be those Macho Men and live with the pain, and go outside when you have to do that! Ha! Ha!

Jeff, what kind of furnishing does this thing have other than sleeping eight people? I have a couple of folding tables! Yvonne can help me get them into the SUV here but, I will have to have some help getting all of this stuff out once we get to the cabin! I got a little too crazy yesterday, and I'm paying for it today! I found 125 Vinyl LP's and 19 45's that are all in just about imaculate condition about a block down the street from our house! I made the deal verbally on Friday and told the guy that I would give him some money to hold what he had left if he would, and that I would come back one day this week and pay him the rest and pick everything up from him! I had planned to take Yvonne down to help me in the beginning but, I went down to see the guy yesterday, and Yvonne was at work! A few hours later I had a check up appointment with my Back Doctors out in Burlington! The guy I bought them from was nice enough to load them into the pick-up truck for me but, then when I got them home, I had to bring all these LP's into the house by myself, a few at a time! Well, Monday up here was really warm and I was sweating like a pig, huffing an puffing, scawting, and kneeling, and that was just the most physical labor that I have done since way before the back surgery in January! By the time I got out to the doctors appointment I was hurting a little bit! I came home from out there and took some pain medication and got the ice pack out! I'm not doing too bad today but, I am still hurting a bit, so I just concider myself lucky that I didn't push myself any farther than I did! I think I will still try to be a little more careful than that for awhile longer! So any help with moving heavier stuff will be greatly appreciated on the campout!

I drove out to check out the site this afternoon and then made the reservation. The cabin itself is in a meadow setting about 700 feet from the parking. It has four double-stacked bunks to sleep eight. It has a trestle table with two bench seats and a wood burning stove at the other end. There is a full length deep covered porch across the front so weather will not effect cooking or hanging out. There is a nice firepit with a couple of picnic tables around it and an outside grille. There is also room around the cabin to sleep outside if you like. There is no power or running water.

I made the reservation for Friday and Saturday nights (10/14 - 10/15), but I thought I might like to let my son and his family use it for Friday night. The official "Gathering" would then start as early on Saturday as you guys would like to get here. We don't have to leave until Sunday afternoon. Is that OK with you guys? I think it would be worth the drive for a single night's stay and visit, but please let me know what you think. Nothing is set in stone yet except the dates. The cost for Saturday night would be $64 which we can split among us. The only other fee would be $8 per car for a MI State Park Passport.

As far as a gear/food list goes, we can work out the details later. For now, I just want to know whose interested and if a single night Gathering is worth it for you. Let me know!

Jeff

Hi Jeff -

I am in for whatever.

I can be there Saturday, I'll stop and pick up John and Tom and whoever, and then we will drive on up.

Sounds like a real winner of a place.

Now we need a contest!

I will get Maggie to get us some of those big ole' steaks - those would be great on a campfire. I could also wrap up some taters in foil. That would make for a great camp-meal.

Someone could handle the breakfast goods if desired.

I'll have a knife to eat with!

best regards -

I`m in! Jeff and I talked on the phone today, and it all sounds great. I am really looking forward to this, I just hope I can borrow a knife to use.

I hope that, unlike all past Gatherings, someone does remember to bring a knife to this. We need something to open the barley pops with if no one has a bottle opener.

and open all the bacon so we don't starve

:)

Jeff - it might be a good idea to post some kind of list of what personal items we might need, I`m not very experienced at this.
