October MI Gathering

I'm in for whatever! I think I can come up with enough money to do this thing! Like I said, "I'll bring the Ranch Beans and the Freezer Pickles, and some kind of beer, and maybe some other stuff! Let me know if we are going to try to do something while we are there for breakfast for Sunday morning before we leave or what? Or if there is some place around that area, where we can all congragate, have something to eat and some coffee for breakfast before we break up, that's O.K. too!

Hey Andy, maybe you could get some of that bacon from Sean, to wrap around those taters before you put them in that foil, and we'll cook them that way! They come out good that way, if you have never tried it but, I figure you have!

So far everything sounds great! I think I will fill, and throw my seven gallon water jug in the SUV, and we'll take that with us for other than drinking purposes! Sleeping bag and pillows and we should be ready to go! If I'm forgetting something, like my knife, somebody please let me know!

Later guys!

I`m planning on bringing a new model that I`m making for myself for everyone to try out and give feedback. I`m going to leave everything else to Jeff, to post a thread as to what food will be needed, and whatever else we will be needing. It sounds like dinner is covered, so maybe the soup won`t be needed. Maybe something we can cook over the fire, like hot dogs or something. One more idea. Maybe everyone could bring one knife that they consider to be the perfect personal camp knife. I don`t care if it is a JK or not. In case you have not noticed, I`m pretty excited about this, I even bought a new sleeping bag. For this tight ass Bohemian, that`s something!

I think this is going to be a great time! As far as a contest goes, maybe we could do a bushcrafty version of the "Sportsman's Challenge" where there would be several different "events" like fire starting, carving, shelter construction, etc with points awarded for each and an overall winner, based on the point total. We could also do a skill thing like knife or hawk throwing. Just a few ideas......

Things I will bring

I always like to bring a "master" first aid kit that is a beefed up version of my day-to-day boo-boo kit
Full sized axe
Tarps
Rope/Cord

I thought I would post this so maybe we can cut down on redundant items, unless we need 7 axes :)

Hey Everyone! The Ranch Beans can be heated on just about anything that makes heat, and they will go fine with the steak for dinner and the breakfast too for that matter! Who all is up for doing breakfast at the cabin? I can throw my little one burner, a can of gas, a non-stick skillet or two, and a large enough pot to boil some potatoes in, in a duffle bag, bring some potatoes, green pepper, and some onions, and we have some Potatoes O'Brien for breakfast in a hurry! I'll plan for two potatoes per person, boil them up during the day on Saturday, let them cool and then put them down in the cooler over night, and fix them the next morning! Sean is bringing bacon! Somebody else want to bring some eggs for scrambled eggs? I figure two to three eggs per person! Two eggs scrambled, doesn't make that much for eggs! Anything else that someone else knows how to make and wants to have for breakfast! We can throw that idea around too! jds1, do you think there are enough cooking stove type things out there, that we could cook breakfast without bringing any Coleman Stoves? Let me know! And Andy can you start the thread for the food and what we want to do? You know more about that kind of stuff than I do? I'll be waiting to hear something from somebody! This is just throwing ideas out there! Anyone that has a better idea or suggestion is alright by me!

Here's what we know for sure:

1) Show up as early Saturday 10/15 as you like, leave as late on Sunday 10/16 as you like. I'll pick up the cost for the cabin.
2) "I'm coming for sure list": John, Andy, Sean, Tom, Jeff (room for several more).
3) Jeff will bring a two burner Coleman stove with Lodge Logic skillet and cutting board (if you have cookstuff to bring feel free).
4) Jeff will bring a splitting axe and make sure wood is stocked.
5) Jeff will bring eggs, potatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms, butter, bread, seasonings.
6) Andy will bring Saturday dinner steaks.
7) Tom will bring ranch beans.
8) Sean will bring a second cookstove, coffee pot, lights, tarps & stuff.
9) We will all bring beverages.
10) John will bring hot dog supplies and marshmallows.

This is just a start, we can add to/change this list as we go. If you want to bring something just say so!

Put me down for hot dogs and buns for lunch Saturday. I love hot dogs cooked over open flames. And marshmallows!!!

Thought of something else to bring...

Since there's no electricity in the cabin, two lanterns, one propane and one battery powered

I will also bring a battery operated lantern and a couple of head lights, coffee, sugar and creamer! The container of water that I will bring will also take care of water for coffee! Looks like Jeff, Andy, and Sean pretty well have everything else taken care of! If I can bring extra of anything to help the cause, just let me know!

I'm in as a possible. I've actually got that weekend off, and was planning some woods time anyway.

Might depend on if I can work some OT between now and then for a little extra money.

It would be good to see you again. This is probably our last gathering of the year, unless we do a pre Thanksgiving one at McKinley Woods again. (and make fools out of ourselves doing our firestarting)

My wife and I got a chance to check out the cabin and trails again this weekend. This will be a fun Gathering! :)

Jeff

Veery generous offer, Mike! If you can get away even for a little while, I`d enjoy meeting you.

Thanks Mike!

Here are pictures of the SouthFork Cabin that Jeff sent to me - The cabin includes a horseshoe pit, and a pit toilet.

Thank you Mike, I hope you can stop by. And thank you Andy for posting the photos.

Jeff

Andy, do you have room for one more. I'd like to catch a ride from John's if that's possible.

Hi Derek -

I have room for three plus me, and we can stow gear in the bed of my truck - just make sure it is bagged or in a waterproof container in case it rains.

If you, Tom and John are joining me, that makes a nice full truck.

best regards -
