Here's my humble input in this most interesting thread.
Rough Rider Boot Scooter. Story behind it was that Foggy Hill had an old knife in their collection in a form of lady shoe with interesting deployment method, and they made their own RR version, a cowboy boot.
There's a ratchet, similar to Spanish navajas, both on the tang of the blade and a metal bar that is attached to the boot's heel. When the heel is moved backwards it makes blade to unfold and vice versa, simple gear action basically.
Have to admit that "gears" are aligned pretty bad, much wobble takes place, so it tends to close accidentally. Wish someone made a more useful version, not likely however.
