Theater (stage) knife. It only looks like a knife!

It's a stage prop with a dull blade that retractable blade (spring action). The blade is painted silver-gray so as not to reflect stage lights out into the audience. The wooden handle is hollow and contains a sponge. When the blade is pushed into the handle, fake blood (in the sponge) is forced out through the opening next to the blade. Unbranded. My guess is maybe 100 yrs old?? T-A
