Ode to BUCK's Opus 112 A Gala & Photo Gallery Celebrating the Buck Ranger

Thats for sure....did you see my Ode too Native American design in comparision with todays design of knife and spear blades "From the stone age to the steel age buck 113 a look into our past to shape the future" http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-113-a-look-into-our-past-to-shape-the-future

Very interesting thread. I take away from it that well-designed tools can be found from any age. And if the tools' functions are the same or similar, the technology will also reflect this, at least to the extent the materials do.

That's one of the reasons, I think, for the appeal of classic Buck knives, the 112 for sure but also the 110 and most of the others. They are as representive of our age as a flint knife or a Bronze Age sword is of theirs.

I totally agree! when I got the 113 & Vanguard 192 I recognized shape immediately.......and was so stunned how close they were.

JB, yes in 2007 Buck responded to this Forum Members demands and allowed a limited time run of Custom 112's. Turns out there were less than 100 ordered. So, I doubt they'll offer it again. Still, some gents got a real Custom 112 folder and Buck tested the waters.

The "problem" with that offering is that Buck never acknowledged the Custom 112's availability; it was never posted on their website and you could not place an order online. To the best of my knowledge, the only place that the offering was ever noted was here on BF and that information was furnished by an avid 112 member rather than by Buck itself. I believe that more orders would have been placed if only Buck would have made the information readily available.

There are times when you have to wonder who is running the market research at some companies....

Agree totally with what you say.

Some Rangers for your pleasure :)

Tin, You call out a good point form that allocation. DM

Thank you, David :) :)

Notable is the one on the keyboard. It has the 432 blade,
a special edition for Good Year. As I remeber Buck made
12 000 of them. Same size as the 112.

Your welcome. I saw that one and thought, I didn't recall a 112 with a 432 blade. But I don't know everything they do. Still, a handsome model. DM

;) no Chance to know everything they do. It is not only too much, Sometimes Buck has their special own logic ;)

Wow, what a great thread. Thanks for all the pics and info on my favorite Buck.

JSutter is was well over due, I felt the 112's should have a thread dedicated to them. thanks! and thank all who made this FANTASTIC RESPONSE with all their 112 collections with thier special editions and the rock solid standard 112's. Nice Job everyone.... :)

I don't think the 432 was a regular LE and I think it was much less than 12,000..The way it worked was if you bought a set of 4 432 Goodyear tires you got a certificate/voucher you then mailed to Buck to get your 112.You also had the option to have your initials engraved on the rear bolster . The sheath is much rarer than the knife. I display the prototype and the version with the initials in my rare/odd/1of1/prototype 112 collection. I had the one without the initials but due to space I took it out of my display. .If you were in Atlanta at the Blade show this weekend you could have seen them . I was honored to receive the BCCI award for rare odd prototype single models.

You and your brother's wife received awards, but your brother didn't. Was it a fun ride home. :p

Hi Clint, nice to "read" you :) I hope you had a lot of fun in Atlanta.
Congratulations for your award. Now I know what I forgot to do when
I was in Florida: To have a look at your knife collection. But it was a
fun to shot with your cannon :) :). Next time!
I just had a look at the Special Project List from BCCI and found the
432 as a post script in the year 1983. Cat. 592.
Produced quantity: 10700.
