off the busse subject

I personally think the Seb is the most beautiful and timeless production folder ever made, even though I don't have one, I know I will own one some day just to see what all the fuss is about. But right now, I'd rather have a Spyderco Sprint with the finest super steel for half the price or a custom if Im going to be shelling out 400 for a folder.

Even though the seb is beautiful, I just dont think it is worth the price. I know the fit and finish are as good as they get but my Sage 2, made in Taiwan had flawless fit and finish and used all the same materials for roughly 1/3 the price of a small seb.

If CRK's used better steel, like S90V, then I think they would be worth it but for $400 I could have a custom maker craft me a folder with better steel or buy any 2 spyderco's I want with far better steel.

M67, what are your impressions of crk fixed blades? I think you have(had) a green beret?

The Green Berets feel great, very comfortable, and nicely made; pretty sharp too. The finger grooves fit perfectly in your hand as well (well, my hand)

I've never handled any of the hollowed handled ones though.

But....after knifetests.com (I know, I know), I knew I had to get a Busse. I love having the piece of mind that I can bash the ever loving s*** out of it and it will be fine. And it's nice Busse holds it's value as much as it does, the CR fixed blades don't, but then again, a lot of knives don't hold their value half as well as INFI does.

I love the idea of the one piece knives and as expected they are very well made. I handled them but did not buy any because the texturing was very, very sharp. I could not see using them without gloves for even a short time without them starting to tear up my hands.
That could have been remedied easily with some sanding but the handles are perfectly round, so I was concerned about finding and then maintaining the proper cutting angle.

The Green Beret's do feel good in the hand and I like the rounded spine and the look of the knife. I did not like that the steel protruded so far at the top and bottom of the handle scales and I do not like the partial serrations, which is why I don't own any. So I have not used them but I know of two people who have used them extensively and used them hard but intelligently and they said they perform well and take a beating.

Some of them are pretty expensive, but they are very collectible. If you are going to get a fold, I'd say wait for the Busse Folder, I don't think you can go wrong. Jerry did bring a working Proto to Blade but I'm sure they are just in the final stages before making it. Well, I hope so anyway.... =)

I'd hate to say it but the Busse Folder is a pipe dream, the proto I have is from 03, sorry bro.:(

Had a CR Pacific. The handle was a very good fit for me. The balance was nice and the edge was very sharp. I sold it before I used it because for some reason I was sure I would bust off the tip of it. I guess I prefer the grind of a knife like the ratmandu which has a good balance or beefiness/slicing capability.

It could be worse than XM18's. Jerry will more than likely only release them for a short period of time. After that, good luck getting one.

Years in development for a limited run? I'll be damned...

As far as the OP question; to me, they are. Umnumzaan is all I need in a folder  Paired up with a Basic 7 or 9, and what else would you need in the boonies?

I'm a fan of the Sebenza folder and I think it's well worth it. Probably not for everyone though.

I think they are worth it. It's the only folder I bother carrying after having tried everything from Hinderer to Strider and Spyderco.

Of course it's all about personal preference..........

I'm sorry gents you can hate me if you like, but the last time I checked this is a BUSSE FORUM!!! If you want to talk CR, they have theirs...

if you buy a chris reeves fixed blade, go with the a2. Bringing s30v down below 55rc removes every last thing that makes it good in an attempt to get toughness, which you don't really get compared to better steels at 58rc+ like a2.

I do like S30V done by CRK than any other I've tried. It takes a lot better edge than my para2 did.

I am not going to disagree with you on this one as it does seem to be the convention here that each brand specific discussion is discussed only in it's own particular sub-forum and in General if they do not have a sub-forum. We have seen some of the fallout of any sub-forum community not adhering to that convention and discussing topics more related to other sub-forums amongst themselves.

That being said, I have to say that I wish it weren't so purely because I prefer to solicit and consider opinions from the community that I feel most comfortable in - people that I am familiar with either from their postings or that I have met personally. It is like meeting your friends in your regular neighborhood bar and talking about something rather than walking into a huge downtown touristy sports bar with a bunch of strangers and striking up a conversation. I am sure that there are countless threads on this specific topic in the CRK forum and in General but I would not bother reading them or responding because they always end up the same with a small few ruining it for the many.

I just think that here in this community it would be handled better purely because it is a smaller community where there is more familiarity among the frequent posters.

Perhaps if the thread and question was phrased as, "Do Busse owners consider CRK knives worth the money?" it may have been more appropriate in this forum.

I've only had one folder, a small Sebenza, and the workmanship was flawless. However, I sold it not long after I bought it due to the fact I found it difficult to open effortlessly on a consistent basis.

I've got my last one piece CRK fixed up for sale now. Again, fit and finish is perfection, but I've never warmed to the round grip.

I'll stick with Hinderer folders and Busse fixed.
