Just for the heck of it, let's see where we all stand. When you respond, tell your choice (obviously) and why it's your pick. For me, it goes something like this:

1911. I shoot with them better than all of the Glocks I've tried, and I love the extra heft over the polymer Glock. It feels right AND looks right. Not to mention I'm sentimental to the design, because a Springfield 1911 has been my dad's favorite and most-used pistol ever since he bought it 10 or so years ago.

To your corners, folks :D

EDIT: I'm not looking for recommendations, this is just sort of a poll to see which way hogs lean in general.

I'm not looking to buy either, just curious to see what the trend is amongst hogs :)
That first bit may've been a lie, I'm actually looking into a Kimber haha

Much different guns as you know. I have a Glock 30S that is a nice gun to carry. I don't have any 1911's, but I do have my eye on a Wilson Combat Xtac Elite that I love, I'm just trying to justify the price to myself.

Dozens of manufacturers make a 1911 variant. The comparison is erroneous.

Also, Kimber sucks.

I alternate carry between a Glock 17 (17+1 in the gun, three 19 round reloads), and a Springfield Armory Long Beach Operator with SureFire X300U (10+1 in the gun and four 10 round reloads)

I agree with Demon613, don't buy a Kimber.

I'm not asking which is better, I'm asking which one individuals in this forum "like" more. Which one speaks to you, if you will.
As for Kimber, they did have issues, but my uncle has bought a pile of them in the past few years and he's had nothing bad to say, even in the customer service experience he had.

Glock 20 and Glock 19 take care of my pistol needs at the moment. But I would love a Kimber 1911 in 10 mm or a Colt Delta Elite

I meant that the comparison was erroneous because you're basically asking "which do you prefer, a Toyota Camry LE or a truck?"

You're comparing a specific type of polymer-framed, striker-fired, high-capacity, modern pistol to an entire genre of other pistols.

A better question would've been "Do you prefer modern, high-capacity, polymer-framed pistols or anachronistic, low-capacity, metal framed pistols?"

Fair enough. Let's compare Government-sized 1911s in .45 to full-size Glocks (and companies of that ilk, i.e. FMK) in .45.

There is no Polymer handgun on the Market that shoots as well as a WELL-MAINTAINED 1911-That is just a fact! I own a Walther PPQ M1, HK VP9, Springfield XDM 45, and FNH Five-Seven that are ALL Polymer and shoot great with High Magazine Capacities, and with the exception of the Five-Seven are very reasonable priced Guns-I had 2 Glock 41's and sold them because I believe there are other Polymer handguns nowdays that are equal to or better than the Glocks's! But none of them have the sweet single action trigger pull of a 1911-NONE-No it does not hold 13 rounds, but they are without question the sweetest to fire! The one concern with the 1911 is it must be maintained (cleaned and oiled regularly), more often than the polymer's. As far as pure shooting pleasure the 1911. A Zombie Killer or Combat Weapon I would take a Polymer Walther, HK, and Definitely the XDM 45 first, With a 1911 as a very, very, close second-(Simply because of Firepower) A Glock would be WAAAAAY down the list!!

Love my 1911's but carry various glocks more often than not. Generally, with a 1911, you have to spend twice as much as with a glock to get the same level of reliability. When I'm in the mood for a cocked and locked 45, I carry my HK45C. The only pistol more reliable than Glock in my experience.

It would depend if a Glock in .45ACP fit your hand to your satisfaction. They are large and don't work for some. I own both a 1911 (series 70 Gold Cup - modified) and a 17/34. I like both but if pressed would take the Glock each and every time.

I have both but a 1911 just fits my hand better and I love the trigger. Shoot better with it as well

Have lots of experience with both. Both are good platforms. In general, broad, brush, Glocks are simpler, more durable, and more reliable, compared to turn key 1911's...especially in equivalent price categories. If money's no object a guy can drop a couple grand on a 1911 and have a truly great tool. Same amount of $ on a Glock also gets you a truly great tool and lots of ammo.

If it's reliable, the one you get hits with fastest is the better pistol. Forget about "accuracy" as a selection criteria for a carry / combat pistol. Both are more than accurate enough.

Of those choices, a 1911 all the way! Now throw a full-sized XD .45 into the mix, and I might have a harder time deciding, lol!

Guys, guys, guys... Puts your hands on, and shoot a few rounds through, one of the ~'96-'98 Kimbers, and I guarantee you'll change you're mind. ;) A couple prime examples:

With that said, the newer Kimbers are still good guns, but overpriced for what they are IMO. Don't hate on 'em if you can't afford one, lol. :p :D

I totally disagree with your reasoning here! If you think that ALL 1911's are "anachronistic, low-capacity, metal framed pistols", you are way off base!

Do some looking, and you will find that not only are there some "polymer-framed" 1911's, but high-capacity ones too! In .45 ACP no less! Let's not forget that a "polymer" frame has a steel skeleton hiding under all the plastic too... ;) I personally have a double-stack .45 Para-Ordnance that holds 15+1, and an alloy frame 1911 that is no heavier than a similarly-sized polymer-framed pistol would be.

Oh yeah, Glocks suck! :p (XD's rule! :D)

BTW, if you couldn't tell, my post has a HEAVY dose of sarcasm mixed in. No reason to take this too seriously. There's SO many gun choices out there, no reason to be a hater on one type, and a fanboi of another... ;)

I own both a Colt 1911 and a Glock 21, if it were a war or battle in mud I'd take my Glock 21. If it were a battle or war in anything that could be put in my way...I'm taking my 1911. I love and trust my Glocks....But.....But....there is just something EXTRA sweet about a Colt 1911.
My choice....1911 all day.

90% of people lack the muscle control (fine motor, gross motor, eye-hand coordination) to experience any discernible difference between the accuracy of modern day polymer framed pistols vs 1911's

I think Andy said it best when he referenced the ergonomics being the primary factor to consider.
