Off Topic: 1911 gov't-size in .45 or full-size Glock in .45?

I own both a Springfield 1911 and a glock 19 and while they're both different calibers I enjoy shooting both. If I had to choose only one...it would depend on the situation :). Wow, I should've been a politician!

Cutting it very close,:D ammos doable, but not sure on the mags. Might have to talk him into shooting that around xmas. You've got quite an arsenal!Sounds like. Much more than what I got.:o Both guns and knives.

Yeah I've collected my share of things over the years. And that doesn't include the shotguns & rifle. Always been interested in this stuff I couldn't wait to be old enough to buy my own knives and use guns. Knives started as a hobby but it got weaved into my firearms/self defense eventually, so I'm a user and a collector. I've been doing it long enough that it would feel unnatural for me to not have a gun or a knife somewhere nearby lol

👍, feel the same. I'm more hunter than "tactical" so many guns I just don't need, can very much appreciate all the cool tactical stuff see around here though, god knows I'd love to get more guns than got, :D used to have more but many just sat around so got sold.

My Father has always had 1911's, it was the first handgun that I told him I had to have. One day many moons ago he gave me one of his 1911's and I still have that one to this day. There have been quite a few along the way since and others Sig, H&K, kimber, etc. But I love my 1911's and always will !!!!! 1911 all the way !!!!!!

I don't have any big complaints against Glocks or 1911's. But when I put my hand around the Smith & Wesson M&P, I realized it was the best by far for my hand. I have other pistols, but none of them feels like the M&P. I have put many, many rounds of 45 ACP through it and never had a failure. Nothing fancy but it's been a great gun and it was very affordable too.

I have full size and subcompact glocks in 45. Have a spare slide and barrel in 10mm for the full size 45. I shot 1911's in competition along time ago. These were highly tuned pistols. I like how the 1911's conceal better (slimmer) in my opinion. My experience show me that If I practice regularly I can shoot the 1911's better. If I don't practice the Glocks are the best for me. I have owned some 1911's recently that were totally
stock. These gun were finicky about ammo. These guns are gone. I still have my glocks because I am more comfortable that they are reliable. The only 1911's I would carry now would have to be semi custom gone thru for me to have confidence in their reliability. Hence $1,000 plus 1911's. Just my experience and humble opinion. P.S. I have no problem buying a Kimber. They ones I have shot are nice and have these semi custom features from the factory. Good value in 1911.

Just for the heck of it, let's see where we all stand. When you respond, tell your choice (obviously) and why it's your pick. For me, it goes something like this:

1911. I shoot with them better than all of the Glocks I've tried, and I love the extra heft over the polymer Glock. It feels right AND looks right. Not to mention I'm sentimental to the design, because a Springfield 1911 has been my dad's favorite and most-used pistol ever since he bought it 10 or so years ago.

To your corners, folks :D

EDIT: I'm not looking for recommendations, this is just sort of a poll to see which way hogs lean in general.

1911 all day

On a side note, I am having trouble liking my Sig P220. Maybe I just need to learn to shoot better but I seem to do fine with my Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry.

Doesn't 1911 vs Glock rank right up there with Sex, Religion and Politics?(sarcasm) Gonna be some friendships broken on this thread.

I'm safe though, cause I swing both ways on this one.;)

I prefer a SIG 220 to either, but if I had to choose between a 1911 and a Glock, I'd have to go with the 1911. It just feels better.

But neither my 1911 nor my Glock is full size. I'm comparing a Kimber Ultra Carry to a Glock 30. I haven't owned a government-size 1911 since the mid-80s.

What?! LOL
For me the 1911 & FNP/FNX 45 tie for first with the P220 right behind them.

But if we bring the BHP into the mix, you know, the 1911 with all the mistakes fixed, then this is a different story altogether... ;)
May I ask what BHP is?

I am not educated about handguns and appreciate the thoughts shared. I also am looking at Kimber and Wilson. My friend bought a custom Kimber in 2002 and it has worked well.

Glocks are nice, love mine. But I got to say, cant part with the 1911. Best feel of a pistol in my opinion. Weight is good, recoil perfect, stopping power is real nice. Just love mine. Springfield 1911 Mil spec.

I like my all metal pistols. My CZ-85 and Colt 1911 are favorites. The Walther PPK is a great CC. I had a glock 17 and it was alright but not a favorite.
