Off Topic: 1911 gov't-size in .45 or full-size Glock in .45?

No doubt, however even an unexperienced shooter will notice the difference in the trigger pulls between a 1911 and Polymer! The Walther has the best trigger IMO of any of the Polymer Pistols produced, it is however not as a good as a 1911-Cheers!!!
90% of people lack the muscle control (fine motor, gross motor, eye-hand coordination) to experience any discernible difference between the accuracy of modern day polymer framed pistols vs 1911's

I think Andy said it best when he referenced the ergonomics being the primary factor to consider.

I own both, read my signature:D

The glock 21 is a great gun, but it is big. If you do not have XL size hands it will feel very big. I love it and it shoots great. But I would get rid of it first before I got rid of my prized 1911.

I own both the 1911 and several Glocks - G19 G22 G27 compact .45 - Springfield XD and XDM in .45 ACP

Hard for me to choose I love my children equally lol. I rotate between the 3 brands for my EDC so I don't have to choose :) Love the Glocks because it's so easy for me to carry extra mags 22 extended mags fit my 27 which is a major plus for me.

Have this 1911 debate all the time at work with every new class that comes in.

Funny-- I actually thought about saying "we all know what Cobalt thinks" in the original post :D

I'm not one to stand on my high horse and scream obscenities but... there is something to be said about a solid 1911 hang' off my belt:) on second thought, save the money.. buy 2 glocks!!

I have a blue government model that I shoot very little and a stainless commander that I shoot a lot. Both my Glocks are nines. If I shoot .45 it's going to be a Colt.

1911- Had several...Auto Ord...POS. Wouldn't function w/ two trips to Auto Ord. Prob 1986-7 time frame. Sold it for a loss. Two Springfield Armory - Full size and a Champion model. Both shot well and the full size was set up as I wanted it. Paid a bunch to get it put together; Flat main spring housing, ambi safety, sweet sights, trigger job, opened and flared ejection port. Prob 1994-95 time frame. Both sold later.

Recently shot a Ruger 1911. Well made, very accurate and a nice trigger. Alloy frame and SS slide. Cool looking too. Functioned fine.

+ Grip feels good in my hand and the single action triggers are generally pretty good, esp on the Ruger I recently shot. No rail for a light back in the day although many are made now that do have 1913 rails for lights or other items. - mag capacity.

Glock 21 - Never owned one but shot several. Good mag capacity and functioned fine. - The grip is just like the Mod 20....a bit too big for my liking.

Have a Glock 21SF. The grip feels much better in my hand compared to the G21. + Good function, night sights and mag capacity.

I got "Lucky" on Gunbroker a few years ago. I was reading about the 45GAP G37 which has the same grip size as the G22 and 17. I bid $330 on a Glock 37. (Full size 45GAP). No one else did....so, I have a G37. Excellent grip size, good function and night sights. Mags hold 10 rds. Similar ballistics as the 45 ACP with a nice grip. I'll keep it until I run out of my 45 GAP ammo supply and then sell it. - The ammo is generally hard to find in a brick/mortar store and is more expensive than 45 ACP in either on-line or brick/mortar.

I can shoot a 1911 more accurately because of the nice single action trigger. Glock triggers can be improved greatly to aid in accuracy. As far as reliability, my experiences w/ Glock have been outstanding. My experiences with 1911's has been good as well but my first 1911 from Auto Ord had me scared off for a while. Not a big issue w/ the one from a specific manufacturer. The one's I've seen at the ranges are working well. The 1911 grip feels better in my hand when compared to a G21 but the G21SF feels equally well. Glock has the + in magazine capacity. I also like the idea of the accessories for the 1911 although there is a bunch of stuff we can do to the Glocks nowadays.

If it's my choice, I'd go for a 1911 over a G21 simply because of the grip size. If I could have a G21SF as an option too, I'd go with that one the other two.

I love my Glocks, and the way they shoot. Very consistent and really like their trigger breaks. But.....I LOVE my 1911's. Nine days out of ten, the PC (middle) is on my hip.

1911. I have a whole bunch that I love
I'm a big Wilson fan myself. I like ed brown also. There are too many custom makers to name. Just like knives.
Truffle hunter. You won't be disappointed with a Wilson combat. Totally worth the money. I figure if I can justify a 2500 knife a 4K dollar 1911 is a no brainer.

I was once told......
The Bible was written by men's hands guided by God......
The 1911 was built by Samuel Colt, but designed by God.
.that being said.....in my opinion....it is the Ultimate Killing tool.

1911 for me as well. I have three Colts and an Ed Brown. The Ed Brown's fit, finish and trigger are absolutely superb, but I think I shoot as well or better with my Colts. 1911s just call to me when I'm in a gun store.

I'm not saying either is better, but shooting my 1911s feels like "home" , so I'm going with the 1911.

NO BRAINER! 1911  A 1911 will reward a good shooter much more so than a Glock. You always hear about Glocks getting the nod when it comes to reliability, but (knock on wood) I have yet to experience a FTF with my 1911.

Colt Delta Elite

My dad has one of these from the 90's. Has had many problems with it so he says with FTF/FTE's. Don't think he's had much experience with pistols besides revolvers, so maybe something simple to fix, maybe just the mags/ammo, I didn't even know he had it until.this year. And that reminds me shoulda got him 10mm rounds and extra mags for xmas.

A few thoughts from a guy who shoots both,

Almost everybody with equal practice hours behind both guns will shoot a 1911 better. Shooting one hole groups (if that matters to you in a handgun) at distance is much easier with a high end 1911 -- crisper trigger, shorter lock time etc.

The performance advantage of 1911 style guns is why uspsa open class race guns are built on single action 1911 style frames.

The performance advantage of the 1911 is partially offset by the practicality of the glocks

Glocks will be more reliable and tolerant of neglect and environmental factors, all things being equal.

Not everybody needs to be carrying a single action 1911.
--For some the mushy trigger creep of a glock is important extra "decision making leeway".
--If you want to shoot a 1911 quickly you must be comfortable carrying cocked and locked.

The obvious capacity disadvantage of the traditional 1911 can be overcome by using double stacked STI and similar frames.

Some people feel that the non fully supported barrel of some (all?) glocks makes shooting +p+ ammo dangerous (others disagree)

I have a healthy respect for the practicality of glocks and also respect people who shoot glocks well (which is harder imo), but glocks bring no joy to my shooting experience. A well made 1911 is a beautiful piece of engineering and a pleasure to shoot.

But if we bring the BHP into the mix, you know, the 1911 with all the mistakes fixed, then this is a different story altogether... ;)

Well stated, and I totally agree!!
