Worried about my younger brother guys. His name is Mike. Appreciate any prayers for him. He's been battling depression for a few months now. My older brother committed suicide, makes me worry about him even more.

I'll be keeping him in my prayers. Sorry to hear about your older brother.

Thanks guys, appreciated. My brother used to call me all the time, now he never does. I did get an unusual text from him today. Kinda weirds me out.

Try to go spend some time with him if you can, go out shoot guns, play with knives, go for a hike. Hope hes doing ok.

He just doesn't want to do anything. All he does is watch TV, pretty much. This just started a few months ago. He's never had problems with depression before.

Yeah that makes it rough, this time of year sucks for depression. All the rain and the clouds just get you down. Shit maybe just picking up a few movies and going over to chill with him will help a little.

Depression is terrible. Any change in his life you know of? If all he wants is to watch TV then maybe just watch it with him. Company is a good thing. I'm so bored anymore that days my wife has the kid. A friendly face helps alot

My wife has depression, goes up and down......drives me nuts.

best thing I can think of is medication and talking to someone.

Hope all goes well brother.....

Rough.
If he's never had to work through a serious depression before then he may not have the tools to deal with it. I'm sure different things work for different people, so I don't have any specific advice, just sympathy. I've seen talk therapy work wonders to help people work through major issues.

Personally, I'm convinced that watching too much TV sucks dopamine right out through my eyeballs, so that would dig me deeper.
Doing something creative or constructive or energetic usually has the opposite effect - making stuff, gardening, cycling. YMMV.
Good luck, Dubz, he needs you.

Thanks guys. I talked to him on the phone a bit ago, he seemed a little better. I asked him why he didn't call me anymore, and he said that he didn't call anyone anymore. I said yeah, but I'm your brother. He said eh, nobody wants to talk to me. He started building a house for my cousin a few months ago. Although he knows how, he's never done one from the ground up before. My Uncle used to be his construction partner. He had some guy working with him, but the guy knew nothing about construction, and Mike had to stop every so often to explain how to do it. It seems that's where it all started. I think he got overwhelmed with the whole thing, and went down hill from there.

Good to hear things are getting better Dubz. Also good that your bro is answering the phone and was open to talking. It seems he realizes the problem and even has an idea of when it started. I have to believe those are good things.

Good indeed. My brother is 43, 5 years younger than me. He's a very religious man. He was a deacon in the church, and is now an elder. I've never even heard him curse one time in my whole life.

Just got my ER bill from when I cut myself, $672. I have insurance but I guess it aint covering it. WTH, I'll probably just tell them I can't pay it cuz I'm broke.

Fortunately for me, when I cut my finger it didn't cost me another dime since I'd already met my deductible and coinsurance amounts for the year.

Unfortunately for me, I'd already met my deductible and coinsurance amounts for the year....... $$$$

In my experience, both first and second hand, most places will work with you on payments. Just call em up and say you'd like to pay what you owe, but can't afford to pay it all now. How does $100 (or $75 or whatever's comfortable for you) a month work?

I had several thousand dollars worth of med bills and was able to pay just over $100/ month with no interest till it was paid off. They even proposed those terms - all I did was call and say I couldn't pay but wanted to.

It's just annoying that I work my butt off, and have insurance, and it still cost me a bunch. And people who don't do either of those things get to skate. I don't make much any more since I'm in school full time. Whatever, it was my fault so I guess you gota pay to play.

Yeah I hear ya man, it's no fun and I feel the same way sometimes.

I hate knowing that part of what I'm paying for is the homeless drug addict/ illegal immigrant/ scammer using a fake name who never paid a dime

Yeah, and it doesn't help that my roommate used to work security at a hospital, so I heard all the stories. I'll stop now since this isn't W&C or the political forum.

Hospitals will write things off as goodwill at times if you call and talk to the accounting department. Before the wife and I were married she had her appendix and gall bladder out in emergency surg, 54k for an overnight stay and 5 hours of surgery. When she got the bill I called the accounting department and asked if they were stupid or something. Shes 19 just starting college, 54k may as well be 54 million you think maybe we can work out a little something more realistic? She filled out some paperwork they wrote the whole thing off except for the anesthesiologist for 1,200. Worth a try.

Depression sucks, sometimes all you can do is go kick their door in and drag them out to do something or see somebody, but keep after him.
