A lot of thievery these days with the economy sucking and people out of work. Have to nail and glue every damn thing down these days and post guards.

couldn't agree more, glue and nails just don't cut it.. you need 24/7 surveillance... I also think there are those that have never sought employment or a life for that matter that use the economy as an excuse to make themselves feel better for being such scum.. a pep talk in the third person if you will..... self entitlement since the economy is so bad, after all we owe it to them... !!!???!!!???!!!??

The Harpeth didn't stand a chance....

thieves suck.
trying to put up 900' of 4 strand fence.
someone came by during the storm last night and took the 30-40 posts we'd already pounded in but left the rocks we were using to mark the location for drilling holes for the wood corner and line posts.

who the hell steals fence posts?

imho, a neighbor. are you by chance blocking off any paths or "common ways" into the woods/trails? we tried that when i was growing up. despite no tresspassing signs, and a 500 foot private driveway, people felt they had a right to come down it, and across our land to access an abandoned development area. we'd put up a fence, it would be gone in a week while everyone was out. we put up a bigger, deeper fence, it would be gone. our ultimate attempt to block this, was having this guy drop off car sized boulders all across the back 40, edge to edge. looked great. lasted a couple months, then we went away for a week, and when we came back, it was GONE. not a single trace. no witnesses. no evidence. i mean, how do you pull that off?

so we put in another fence, and this time, it was watched :> we caught the frakkers doing it.

turns out it was our neighbors - several of them, who felt they had RIGHTS to our property.

the police? they said it was a civil matter. so my dad took them to court, having caught them ;) they paid. judge ordered them to never set foot on the property again, or they'd goto jail. only took 5 years from the first fence.

I just ordered this pack. It's gonna be off duty and on duty EDC. But in OD green. Whatcha think?

Glad to see you gents made a good time of it. I hope you got in on the Tweener frenzy that has been mentioned in other threads over at SMKW.

My legs were sunburned, my feet were freezing. Any way you look at it, that's red, white and blue. Just being patriotic..:D

Brother, you ain't kiddin'. Even my Egyptian Cotton sheets where abrasive last night. Standard issue kayak sunburn. Back of my legs are as white as a ghost.

It figures three of the best people to help me with my camping questions are all out...village peopling together..lol
Hopefully someone gets the reference.

Still looking for input from people in the know on good reliable camping gear that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Get back at me in my thread if you get a chance.

I've always wanted to do some kayaking

Silverthorn, good and cheap do not really go together when discussing camp gear, unless it's on sale you usually only get to pick one or the other. I usually go for good since otherwise I would wind up having to buy it twice later.

who the hell steals fence posts?

so far that's been a consistent response - even from the cop who took my statement.
and there are no trails -- it's a hayfield with fence on the other 3 sides - surrounded by cattle pasture.
plus, we left to open "gate" areas.
they left 4 posts -- oddly enough, that's the 4 that are closest to the neighbor's drive -- where his pit bull sleeps...

I spent the weekend chaperoning my mom after her hip operation.
Her yard is all cleaned up after the big storm in October that brought CT to its knees.
I hauled a couple loads of firewood home around thanksgiving. Today I picked up some more.

Oh look, here's a piece. This ought to burn for a couple hours:

It measures 15" across at the widest point, 14" long as cut, and must weigh over 150lb.
This was from a LIMB (not a trunk!) about 60 feet up in the air. Biiiig old oaks, still standing, now trimmed. Actually I think this was part of the professional trimming that followed the storm to keep the trees healthy, not the original fall.

Might make a nice anvil stump too...

wait a minute.... that's the slightly narrower, but longer piece cut from the same limb. But the overall volume is about the same as those measurements above. :)

Worried about my younger brother guys. His name is Mike. Appreciate any prayers for him. He's been battling depression for a few months now. My older brother committed suicide, makes me worry about him even more.

Sorry to hear that brother, quite a bit of my close family deals with some pretty severe depression. It's not an easy thing to tackle. Best wishes.
