Aaaaaaaaaaahhhahahahahhaaahaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just took my Gerber out and made a fuzz stick. Never tried it with a hatchet before, but works quite well. Mine also is made in Finland. Note on the last photo, the chunk that came out with a bad blow the first time I took it out:

If you look back at the pic of the one I have you'll see what they've done to prevent that. The new models flare the head out more (sticks up above the wrapped handle). I think it was a common complaint and Friskies addressed it. Good for them.

Yeah, you're right, that is different.

@ Trade,

Yup, on yours there's actually a raised lip that is as tall or taller than the ridge of the handle.
I was wondering if that was to stop forward and backward play in the head, but now I can see exactly what its for.
Thanks for making me look at it again.
Those darn Finns, and their ingenuity..lol

I want one of the Bruchs wildlife hatchets. too pricey tho

Yes, but they are sooooo nice. My dream girl is the GB mini hatchet. Jeff Randall let me do some chopping and carving with his and it's as sweet as it gets.

So with TAG posting up pix of the bell he got with his 10, and mentioning the rust that was under the scales, that got me thinking. I ordered an extra one for my son to have when I think he is ready to have sharp pointys. His 10 is still in the shipping box entirely unopened. Should I open it up, take the scales off, coat the blade in mineral oil, and stick it in a ziplock bag to help protect it against the ever dreadful red rust?

I certainly would. A good heavy coat of vaseline and wrap it in brown paper (like a grocery bag).

hah, i got myself in the same spot yesterday, but worse with my gun :)

@ Guyon,

I know the "plastic" isn't really plastic, just like BK handles aren't plastic, but the axe handle takes a lot more stress than a grip does.
Some part of me just doesn't want to trust a hollow "plastic" handle on something that takes a beating like an axe.
I know Fiskars is a great brand, and I am sure the axes are great. I just cant wrap my head around those handles.
Been a Big fan of the Estwing hammers and axes for years and years, and one of the reasons are the solid steel construction, and the handle ergos.
For 20 bucks though, I may have to grab a Fiskars and give it a go. "Plastic" dont rust ..lol

P.S. what length of the Fiskars was that Trade?

well, everything can break. metal snaps, esp with bad strikes. wood handles break. plastic fiberglass steel reinforced never break handles break. fiskars never said their handles won't break, but they are FREAKING tough, and unlikely to ever get loose, or need maintenance, or rust :>

their video says "a build so tough you couldn't break it if you tried". oops. a challenge :> they also say virtually unbreakable as well, they are guaranteed for life.

a mere chip :) polish it out with a stone?

Ahhhhhhhhh! Plastic handle !

one of their older pictures shows them flexing the handle almost 90 degrees by driving some large vehicle onto it like it was a ramp. nice.

yeah, they can break. really cold temps, and some abuse, bam! baseball bats explode too :>

can't have one if you can't spell it ;) j/k you got me all excited there was a brand of axe i didn't know/have, then i figured it out.

thing with those GBs, if you take care of them, you should be able to hand it down to your grandson, for his first Spring shave :>
