Anyone know what the depth of the pocket is on a spec ops combat master short sheath? can it hold a Leatherman and a small Altoids tin? Or just the Leatherman?

not wide enough for the altoid tin unless you're talking about the tiny tins but a leatherman will fit just fine.
and a BK10 with the ramp ground off fits perfect as I just tested. :)

Skyrim drops in one week. Game, hardcover strategy guide, and soundtrack will be mine. Wife doesn't need to know I'll be spending $120 on video game stuff.

So i broke my kids wrist last night. rough housing and horse playing and he fell wrong. two places it broke. 2 year old kid with a blue cast up to just about his shoulder. Little sucker is using it as a weapon already and jumping around and wants me to play rough with him already. I feel like the biggest pile a crap and he keeps coming back for more. wife says its not my fault and that we played like that for the last year without incident, but i cant help but hate myself. Hell we were playing for about 30 minutes before it happened and i cant even remember him falling wrong, but just that he screamed. Now swelling, no bruising no nothing, just tears, he even asked for juice and held the cup with the injured hand.

I held him till he fell asleep last night, then when he woke himself up (from the pain i imagine) at midnight, I stayed up with him until about 3 when he finally either got comfortable or just passed out. Got up at 5 to go to work and got him ready and dress while he was still sleeping, no pain from the movement so i figured all was well. The babysitter called my work and said when he woke up he couldnt get himself up, so off to the emergency room he went. after the 3rd degree at the hospital and cross examination from different dr.'s and nurses, he got his cast. Now, that was about an two hours ago and now he wants to play rough again. freaking kids, so resilient. I get a head cold and im down and out for a week, he breaks his wrist and still uses it. hes a better man than me.

just ranting

Hang in there, man. The guilt from the scrapes and dings that the little ones pick up from being loved a little too rough is brutal, but it's all for a good cause. The fact that he kept coming back for more lets you know all you need to know; in his mind, Daddy is still 'safe' (no matter how clumsy :P ).

I've told my kids my whole life that no matter how good with words a parent is, at some point the only way you can express yourself is to throw 'em on the floor and wrestle 'em around.

clich sorry to hear that man, I think more of you for your concern and the fact that you're deeply turning yourself out about it..

otoh, you may be getting a follow up with DHS that's why the 3rd degree at the hospital. don't get all bent they (for the most part) are only there for the child's welfare..

I've beat myself up for a lot of things that happened to my kids, it in time just makes us better parents..

remember there are parents out there that simply just don't care, that's why we should have to be licensed to have kids.. :D

Scored one of those bushcrafty little Fiskars X70 hatchets on clearance for nineteen bucks at a store that rhymes with "small fart" tonight. Nifty little rascal indeed.

Is that the one with the short handle, like a backpacking hatchet?

I just spent about two minutes with a hard Arkansas stone on it and it's the sharpest thing in the shop. No kidding. Literally razorblade sharp. Can't wait to take it out tomorrow and see what it will do. I'm thinking it will be in my pack for a while.

I keep mine in my ALICE pack. I took it out and used it once, but the factory edge certainly wasn't anything to write home about. Sharpened it when I got home, and it did take a good edge. Here's mine:

Same axe.

Allegedly the new X series ones they put out have a different mystery steel as opposed to the earlier models they produced. No idea what the steel is, but they claim it is different on the newer ones.

Took the plunge and ordered a hest 2.0. Hope I'm not disappointed. Its my first higher end folder. I never thought of trying a higher end folder since all the posts about em seem like they take alot of care and maintenance as well as alit of folder know how that I don't have. I dunno we will see. I like fixed for the sole reason that besides oil and sharpening there isn't any other necessary maintenance.

Those hatchets are cool. Plus you can stuff a Ziplock of Barlow weed up in the handle and ply the neighbor's goats with it.

Oh wait... I may have said too much... :o
