Wife is on military scholarship in medical school, on track to become a doctor for the USAF. She's not considered active duty, although she IS part of the military, and as such, her stipend is considered non-essential, and so she won't be getting paid during the shutdown. I work 3 part-time jobs, which won't be enough to support us during this (because her expenses from medical school are pricey), and as she's a medical student, she doesn't have time to go out and seek out a new job. I think it's reasonably safe on the political arena because there is plenty of blame to spread around on all sides.

Man Im very sorry to hear this! I didnt even know anything about a shutdown... hell now i have to go learn what all this shutdown means!

I really need to get some kydex. I'm trying to decide if I'm brave enough to try it myself or just get it done. The hardest part for me would be the eyelets. Although I have access to a drill press.

While on the topic of DIY, is the ring in the handle of the 14 hard enough to spark a firesteel if it was squared up?

That sucks. I'm a federal employee but I'm essential so I still get paid. I have a friend that works for the Corps of Engineers and he's getting furloughed. His department had some extra funds so they get to stay working for another week. A co-worker was laid up for a bit with a ankle-injury and he was at risk for getting furloughed but the chief pushed to get him cleared to work his regular schedule since he can still carry a weapon and can technically stand at a post.

During the last furlough we were almost affected, they were gonna cut us one day a week but at the very last minuet we got exempted since we're mission essential personnel.

Went dove hunting saturday and had a great time. Got to shoot my AR and 5 others in varying calibers. Was a lot of fun. Sunday night my back was itching and i took off my shirt and asked my wife if there was anything on my back.. she almost fainted. I have 100s of bites over my back and top of my butt.. spent yesterday in a benedryl induced stupor.. back to work today but I feel like I was in an opium den for a month. Benadryl makes you have some WEIRD dreams! I got some stuff called chiggerex and it kills the itch very well.. glad all the folks are home safe from the gathering, looking forward to seeing pics.

James Terrio love the avatar, Buckethead is a certified bad@ss :) been watching youtube vids all morning.

Cbear, Kydex is both easier and harder than it looks. It really helps to have good foam, and rigging something up to hold the eyelet setter in your drill press or something would be a good idea. I just got the pre-made arbor press, but a drill press should do the trick just fine also.

LeeBower, I feel your pain. Only time I ever got bad chiggers was in a dove field.

A drill press has worked well for me. I have the anvil set into a 2x4 that I mount to my drill press and put the setter in the chuck. So far, it's worked well.

Or absorbine jr... That works for everything LMAO

It may say pain relief... but its the best stuff for bites, chiggers, poison ivy.. and any other itchy situation for that matter... Best stuff I have used! Calamine lotion aint got nothing on absorbine jr.

It may not be made for that... It may not be healthy to use this way... I have no idea... But for years I have used it on everything from ant bites, bee stings, chiggers and more... It works.. Might kill me one day though... who knows.

I have been switching between the chiggerx and calamine lotion... When I was a kid I lived in a soft calamine shell, lol.

Rubbing alcohol has worked for me on chiggers. It takes a couple times, and burns pretty good, but seems to do the trick.

I had always been taught that the chiggers burrowed in, we used to take a bath with a couple cap fulls of Lysol in the water.. but after reading the webmd page, i find out that they make a feeding tube in the skin then inject an enzyme that breaks down the tissue. That is what causes the swelling. I am going to keep a bottle of this chiggerx with me always from now on, works on all insect bites and gets rid of the itch in a few seconds.
