It doesn't take much. If the lick is altered too much, the back spring is effected and not flush any longer so it's a balance. But the end results area spear point that is not completely symmetrical if you don't alter the kick much to keep a flush back spring. It ends up looking a bit like a Tribal spear to keep the tip below the blade well which is not a bad thing. On some patterns I just like a symmetrical spear where the point of the blade is centered.I don't think there is enough kick to lower it as much as you would have to. But if Bob says hes done it, well, I guess I'm wrong!
It can be done Jack. I have done it for a couple folks. That said, I wouldn't do it myself. Just find a spear.

Again, I have done it with the owners of the knife aware of the end results.
I don't like it and wouldn't do it on my own knife.
Thank you for mentioning this. I was a little concerned about this. The walk and talk is very soft. And blade centering on mine favors the show side a little. I was not sure if this is normal. As compared to the little bulldogs of 25.Got mine this morning. It's a little slow on the closing, not much snap there, but I think I just need to use it for a week and it'll loosen up nicely. View attachment 755077 I've been looking at everyone's pics, and not being familiar with canvas micarta, they looked a little fuzzy at the sides. Now that I have one in hand I can feel that where the sides are rounded, the material isn't polished like on the top. I look forward to seeing how the handles change with age. Do they absorb oils and darken and smooth out?
I've used a fine point permanent ink marker to do this on the "NF" inscription on one of my 77 barlows and its help up well! I'll add some pics soon. It's does look knice, I wonder if there's a way to blacken the inside of the stamped letters on the bolsters to give it more contrast, something like a cast iron black would set off the polished bolsters so knicely.

I've been sitting here playing with opening/closing it, and it's getting better already.r8shell; I've heard many of the same complaints. Mine too was a bit sluggish closing. I flushed the joint and re oiled it and now it's perfectly snappy.
Mine snaps open nicely, it just needed a little extra push to snap closed. From what I've read about the #25s, just about any other knife might feel soft in comparison!Thank you for mentioning this. I suppose if I cut something messy with it, it'll absorb that, too? This might not be the best knife for fish-gutting then.r8shell the micarta will absorb oil, it's pretty tough material and would take a while to smooth out.
Ok great. Thanks for the input. Mine is exactly as you mentioned yours.I've been sitting here playing with opening/closing it, and it's getting better already.
