Despite my raving over the two blade options, I really do like stockmans, and have multiple GEC and Case models. If I liked black zytel, I probably would have a Buck by now too. I could walk down to our local gun shop and get a 3 blade 301, or drive about 10 miles to the next sporting goods store and get one there. Although I prefer buying in person, there's dozens of websites that offer them too.

But a two blade 301...where do I find one of those? Hopefully here at the BladeForums traditional Subforum!

Come on, all switch to the one-end 2-blade double spey :D

:eek::eek::D:D:D

I think we'd end up with nobody buying that  consensus! (some have unwisely said they'd buy a Forum Knife whatever happens though...bring it on:D:p) I'd opt for a single blade corkscrew with plenty of room in the frame to drown my sorrows :D

Going to put different angles on those two castrator blades?:D;)

Maybe sharpen the spine on one spey to add uniqueness ;) although a corkscrew would also be nice... How about going 3 spring Stockman with nothing but corkscrews?

I'd like to see those samples with the blades open. I'm happy with either of the front-runners and eager to see how the ffg blades will look.

How many of you guys that want a 3 blade knife will really use all three blades routinely? I would bet very few of you.
I have a Case medium stockman. How often do I use all three blades? Occasionally, just like I use any knife. When you have a job fit for a spay blade, there really isn't a much better shape. Sure is a lot easier to spread jelly with than a clip point!

But, everyone leaning two blades has a point (actually, two)...a stockman would be waaaay too thick. May as well carry a Hinderer. Where's the roll eyes icon? Oh wait- here we go:rolleyes:

Two sabre cat posters in a row? Neat! I just have to respond to both. Guess I'm still not picking up on the vibe as to why the forum knife needs to be different from a model offered currently by a manufacturer. That holds far less appeal to me than a traditional sample done with special options. But, hey, we all have our opinions, right?

Let's just not let unique-mania spill over into cover choice selection. I really don't want to buy a knife handed in bubble wrap micarta or stabilized cow patty.

It doesn't need to be different but it will make it unique. Besides, how many of us would be willing to spend a C note on a standard Buck 301 that is just dressed up?

As for cover choices, I have to agree with you. Let's not go crazy. I am rather fond of micarta though. It is a fitting material for this type of folder. I also like the wood on the sample Buck made for us. Can you picture that with the anvil shield and no rivets? That would be a smart looking knife!

Personally, I'm not crazy about clip point blades. I know they are very popular but, just not my thing.

As for the two blade agenda, I hope it will make the blades easier to deploy. With my nails, blade access on a traditional knife is usually a problem.

The total of the "two blade same end"+"three blade" is now equal to the "two blade opposite ends" at 161. Looks like this goose is cooked! :D

It's looking close, for sure. ;)

Since I'm not getting my Buck Jack, I can't resist jumping the gun on the covers discussion. I think micarta can be nice on a folder if it's the fine-grained linen or paper type. I don't care for the rough micarta with the raw fibers sticking out except on a big fixed blade. We just had a fibrous micarta on last years knife, and that's why I haven't carried it much.
Also, I like pins on covers. I know epoxy is good stuff, but I never quite trust it to hold covers on long term.

I voted for opposite end clip/sheepsfoot, but I would go for same end or traditional stockman, too. Easy to please, I guess!

Gotta admit, the sample of the 2 blade, opposite end, looks better than I thought. Still makes me want a stockman even more though!!

My problem with the off the shelf Buck stockman knives is how underwhelming they are. I really want one, but that black plastic and (less than desirable) blade steel is a serious turnoff. This is an amazing opportunity to get a premium stockman from an iconic company, which probably won't happen again for a very long time. Keeping my vote the same for the stockman!!

CPM154 is not standard.

Now, it is time to make some deals. OK the stockman is only 2nd . But what about some nice micarta? There is a vast choice to change from linen and canvas to make a really unique Buck... :)

The giraffe bone does look good. :)
But, it is a $99 option on the Custom Shop 110/112's :(
Hopefully if it is an option for the BF knife, it won't double/treble the price.
I like the Ironwood a bit more, so I will vote for that .... or Cocobolo ...

I like Stockman patterns. But when I look at Buck's version, I don't feel the love so much. I think it's that the secondaries are so thick and that the thickness carries out to the tips of the blades. An offset and crink forces the secondaries to be thinner, taper more, and to my eye the knife looks more graceful from the top, even if the overall thickness of the knife is the same. What I see is a traditional pattern that's been tweaked to make it cheaper to manufacture and to reduce warrantee costs with styling taking a back seat. It looks like it belongs in Walmart. :) Another reason that I'm voting for the two-blade option, it just doesn't look as clunky to me.
