Official BeckerWest 2014 Spring Gathering. April 25th-27th

Canopies and tables seem to be the biggest need at these gatherings.
I'll bring one of each.
If anyone can think of anything else we might want, then please post here and I'm sure that between us all we can make it happen!

I'll bring a canopy, table, and a few extra chairs, as well as the dutch oven and the big pot, just in case.

ok fellas, I got a few handles and a few sheaths I'm bringing up. any request? I need to know ASAP so I can work them in my schedule.

I guess I'm in charge of sling shot mayham, bring yur own and extra's. I will be using my simple-shot with the new screw on clips. I'm bringing up 1/4" BB's and I'll try to pick up some zombie targets, if not I think cans will be best. 5 BB's each or something. if we can probably gonna take place behind the camp area where all the fat wood is... bring safety glasses or barrow some everybody playing and around will have to where them.

also I was kidding about entering my 710 painkiller about entering it in the contest.. still coming up and will be around for some handling of 1/2" 3.2 pounds of powa!

What are the constraints on the sling shot? Wrist rockets? Only traditional styles?

Not gonna make it.
Much as I want to go, I should just stop saying "maybe."
Mother-in-law's birthday is the day after Easter this year. We thought we'd have 'em over Sunday to celebrate, and I'd be off the hook the following weekend.
She had this idea to take an extended-family vacation for the weekend. Which is awesome - except she didn't plan it out or try to book anything until this week. No room at the inn. Ummm, Duh. Anyway, the family get-together got rescheduled for a week later. Which is okay - I was prepared to be away from home. But I won't be anywhere near Oregon.

Have a great time, guys.

That's unfortunate.

I'm looking forward to the slingshot shootout. I've got to get me some new rubber tubing for my slingshot though. Almost had a mishap. Lucky that I was paying attention.

slingshots you say...

Well.. Unfortunately I had an accident yesterday and my ankle is broken, so I won't be able to attend the gathering. :(

A lot of sitting by the fire drinking and playing with knives...I can think of worse things to do.

Broken ankle?...That's nothing.
Beardlove's finger was falling off and he still made it. :D

Worse things to do? Yea, sit at home with a broken ankle....that's got to be worse than sitting around BW with a broken ankle.

I'd never let a bum ankle keep me from friends.

Hey all,

I have an idea for an activity during the down time (if there really is such a thing at BW). I'd really like someone to give a class on sharpening. Cause I suck at it. Even if I use all the tips from the sub, I still only get a mediocre edge from using a stone. I need some training.

Also, I have a KO Worksharp but I have not used it on any of my Beckers because only one of my Beckers has a convex edge. That's the disadvantage of getting the KO edition WS. It's designed to do convex edges. I did manage to get a decent edge on a POS Chinese kitchen knife though. Of course, I had to use the coarsest belt and grind the ever living crap out of it to get the convex curvature. So, since I had to do all that just to "prep" a flat ground edge, I have been scared of using the Worksharp on the Beckers. Thinking about selling the WS and just going with stones.

Hey broseph, I got something in my gift bag I'd like you to have that rhymes with norton stone! I'm also bringing a jag of firewood and other crafty gifts I've put together to show my respect to the tribe. I'll bring my little stihl again as long as beardlove juggles with it again. Can't wait to see y'all it's been to long.
Respectfully, Chance.

Go with stones bro...it's all about a consistent angle on the v edge, that's why there are a lot of guided systems out there. Lots of practice and going slow at first.

I'm gonna get a hold of a couple of the rocket stove makers here locally and see if they let us use a couple of demo model for the gathering. Heck maybe they'll come out themselves.

That would be very cool! Been wanting to see those stoves in action.

I'm going to request leave for this. Can't commit to a definite yes because my free time is at the whims of my COC.

If I do make it, I'd be happy to bring my sharpening gear and try to help you out. I'm no professional, but I can get a working edge on a knife.

As far as the KO WS, I'd give it a shot. There are very few knives that have a convex edge from the beginning. I'm sure WS considered that when they made them.

So, if leave gets approved I'll be bringing a folding table, a couple chairs, all my sharpening gear, some guns(there will be shooting right?)and ammo and a bunch of trade/give away stuff.

I'm not able to collect so much as a pine needle anywhere near me, so is collecting wood allowed here?
