Bocote handle

Cutting board is end grain bocote in a basket-weave pattern. This knife will slice grapes paper thin and is about .009" on the back side of the edge bevel. I'm working with Ernie Grospitch on a stencil so this is the only knife I will ever make that will have this logo. I have numbered it #2 because it is the second knife I started with actual knife steel that wasn't for practice. You might also say that it is #12 if you count all the practice knives and KSO. I hope that whomever gets this knife will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed making it.

Here is my entry into the 2010 KITH. I had much fun making and testing this knife. It is forged from recycled truck spring, filed and sanded by hand and heat treated by me. The guard is made of brass and the handle is made of local coyote wood. The riveted pin is made of mild steel and the thong tube is made of copper. Blade length is 10 1/4 inches with an OAL of 15 1/2 inches. I made the sheath for this chopper as well. (The tomahawk is there for staging purposes only, sorry it's not part of the KITH). I hope this knife will see much action and will serve it's new owner for many years.
Thanks to Stacy for all your work in this years KITH!
Mike

Hey Rick,
That looks pretty cool. I like the lanyard scroll and the rawhide wrapping. Looks like an artifact that you wouldn't be afraid to carry. Great job.

Great knives so far!

Rick, there are so many cool things about your piece!!

I'm working in the shop tons right now and really hope to get in on this next year. It's such a cool idea and really embodies the spirit of the holiday season. Very nice of you to organize this every year Stacy:thumbup:

Ok, I'm done. This is my pocket fixed-blade knife. 3/32" 1095, flat grind, redwood burl. The sheath is designed to be worn in the pocket (right handed) as shown. Otherwise, the sheath is left handed if worn on the belt. OAL is just under 6" without sheath. Blade length is about 2-7/8". I hope this gets used alot, it's made for it! Merry Christmas!

There are going to be some truly lucky and happy people this year, great work guys. And you wonder why I feel my knives are inadequate right now. Next year I will be in for sure:thumbup:

Thanks for posting my picture Stacy.
My KITH is a 1095 blade that I cold blued. The handle is "mycarta" from an old pair of BDU's, and sealed. A leather sheath completes the package.

Here's my entry. Its 9.5" OAL 4.5" blade .25" thick O1 heat treated by Peters. Green Canvas Micarta handle, which is bolted on. The tiger stripes are etched with mustard and wiped down with vinegar. The sheath is my first I used last years KITH knife (by HK Knives - Keith Wilis) to cut out the leather.

Here's what I came up with. I know it's not going to win any awards for practicality... Honestly, I was working on a drop point hunter, but there's no way I'd have it done in time. This one was almost done, so I figured I'd wrap it up for the KITH. It's the first prototype for a design I've been working on pretty much since I first started making knives. I finally decided to put it on steel and see how it looked. I'm going to tweak the design a little, but I think it's heading in the right direction.

Steel: .125" thick 440C with a beadblasted finish
Overall Length: ~9 13/16"
Blade Length: ~5" Tip to scales
Handle Material: Black G10
Sheath: .08" Kydex with Tek-Lok
FALSE top edge

The stone is Larvikite and it is from Norway. Although it is not really a granite, it is also know as "Blue Pearl granite". I think I am the only one in the KITH who does not actually make the knife as my passion is working with stone with the knife being the canvass. So, I try to pick a "canvass" and a stone that are durable enough to carry and use daily if the person receiving chooses to put it to work.....

Red: Although I was suspicious at first, finding that it's a ROCK handle is very impressive. How much does it add to the weight?

For those who can't post their photos:

I can't believe the degree of pure creativity and talent in the KITH this year! Every one of these knives shows a true passion for the craft. Makes me wish I'd committed to this, even though I can't afford the time to. Great job everyone!

A lot of great looking knives guys. If I may add, that stone Buck is H O T!!

Someone Give a shout when the next KITH is coming.
