Official KITH Photo Thread

Hey guys these are looking incredible! And for that reason I think I'm gonna back out. These are all way out of my league. Maybe next year I'll feel more comfortable adding a knife to the hat but this year I think I would be doing a disservice by participating.

Keep the pictures coming, absolutely beautiful!

To paraphrase your own signature line: "Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparent outclassing by the others. Push yourself to place your knife in the same league as the rest".

In other words, don't give up, just strive to make the best knife you've made yet. You've still got 10 days to work on it. If you're not happy with it on Dec 1, then back out. That would be giving in to honor and good sense. Backing out now is giving in to fear.

Here is my contribution to the 2010 Knife In The Hat Christmas exchange. There are a lot of very nice knives in here already, and I can't wait to see the rest. Anyway, here's mine, it is a drop point hunter/skinner it has a 154 CM blade, hollow ground in 24 inch diameter, 3 1/2 inches long and 1 3/8 wide. The handle is 4 1/2 inches long of cross cut spalted Alaskan birch, stabilized and with an oil rubbed finish, it has one coat of wipe on poly for a little more durability. I hope you like seeing it and I hope whoever gets it also gets many years of pleasure with it. Merry Christmas to all!

Mark, how did you go about doing that dye job on the sheath? That is very cool looking  Needless to say the knife looks great as well.

Mark, that is a beauty. That handle is really cool! Fine choice of wood. You'll definitely put a smile on someone's face with that knife. Great job.

This is my first time posting - please forgive me if I have not done it correctly!

Here is my entry for the Knife in the hat.

Camp knife: 9 3/4 inches, blade 4 3/4 inches, handle 5 inches. Forged 01 steel, brass guard, fiber spacers, Morado wood handle finished with Tung oil.

Have tried to post photo but can't figure it out. Will have Stacy post them for me.

Larry Connelly

A note from Stacy:
Some might note that this was Larry's first post. He has been around for years, just not one to post on the forums. His submission is fine, and he isn't a rip-off troll trying to scam a free knife.

I'm not sure whether it's a guardless bowie or a figter inspired camp knife:confused:

I just streaked it with dye on a paper towel and two different colors of dye, it's real easy but the first one or two came out looking pretty bad, practice on scrap leather till you get the look you want.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone, I see a lot of nice stuff in here I would love to have.

Only one weekend left to work on the knives. Get busy folks.
Aaron (amcardon) has dropped out to let his skills build for another year. I am waiting on some info from lrc to determine if he can join this years KITH or not.

lrc (Larry Connelly) is fine and I put his photos on his post. Note added to his post to explain.

Here is my KITH knife. It is a chef's knife made of M2 tool steel, cold ground out of a power hacksaw blade. Overall length is 11 3/4", blade length 7", blade width 1 3/4" and thickness is .100". Handle is Jim Todd's G11 set with white delrin pins and epoxy. Not even close to what most of you guys posted here, but grinding the blade out of 63-64* HRC M2 steel is a lot of work and very hard to get a nice finish.

Well done Josh. Knife and sheath both exhibit excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail making for a super nice overall package.
