I think the weekend was a great time although it went to fast.
I want to thank everyone for coming.
Thank you for all the food we had more than enough.
I met some great new people and had the chance to see old friends.
We are having one this fall so stop in or stay the whole weekend.
You might have a good time but you will definitely meet some serious characters.

The best part.

I don't know who the hell this guy is, but he looks like he may have been differentially hardened, IYKWIM. NOT the kind of pic you wanna post to entice people to come to gatherings!

Looks like a case of retained austenite during the quench, but don't worry - beer is a diuretic.

Awesome pictures guys! looks like an awesome time!

Love the mead holder. My question; what kinda shoes are those? I've seen them around here once before. Are they comfy? or does it take a little bit getting used to having stuff between your toes?

They are vibram five fingers. They're kind of controversial, apparently there was a class-action lawsuit against vibram based on claims they made about these shoes. They look weird, but it's the closest I can get to being barefoot, so I love them personally. They are perfect for running around outside or even walking through some domesticated woods like the campsite (I have boots for more hardcore stuff). I think of them as sandals really, they fulfil the same role. Also, they help a lot with things like learning to walk silently in the woods -- a real trick for a big dood like me. But things like fox walking I find much easier with vibrams than with more conventional shoes.

They do take some getting used to with the little "toe pockets" or whatever they are. Honestly the hardest part is learning to put them on the right way, getting all the toes into the right pockets.

Yeah, they look weird. But they are comfy, once you get used to them, and I love them.

Awesome! thanks for the reply!

I'll be keeping my eyes out for them. I had the feeling that once you get used to them.. its like an tougher layer of skin for going barefoot.

Yeah that's exactly it, a tougher layer of skin for going barefoot. Also the soles give much better traction than being barefoot. The sole is really thin, and the shoes are very flexible. I don't know anything about the so-called "false claims" made by vibram, but I can say that in my experience, my feet seem to have become stronger from wearing them, all the little, small muscles that allow the feet and toes to move independently. More nuanced movement than just stomping around in big boots.

Also, they only come in one real shape, and that shape isn't right for all feet. My own feet aren't exactly right... when my big to is fully in its pocket, the little toe is just barely in its pocket because of the shape of my feet.

Found a few local stores that stock them. As soon as my little guy gets up from his nap we're going out shopping. Going to have to convince the wife to make an extra stop to try em on :D

One thing about them, walking on pavement or asphalt is harsh. There is basically no padding at all, so you have to learn to walk the right way (ie, toes-hit-before-heels, use the body's built-in shock absorber) or you'll hurt your feet real quick.

 Sweet, thanks for the tip! Makes sense from a running perspective (what they designed for).

Went out shopping yesterday for the Anniversary. Found a set of the Trek Sport Sandal's on clearance:thumbup: Got them and another pair of regular sandals for $50.

That is a good deal! I really like my 5 fingers, I don't wear them as often as I should though.

The only thing I hate is everyone wants to check out your shoes, they will even call their friends over and ask more stupid questions. I was trying to order some food one time and I kept getting interrupted by people asking me about my shoes. So I yelled, "Question and answer session about my shoes is almost over, anyone else that has questions ask them now" LOL

Let your body get used to them before you plan on wearing them all day.

I walked / drove around with them on for about an hour yesterday. Today I walked around for 2 hours on some nice soft ground in pathway through a local forest. I'll keep upping it little by little so I don't end up sore.

I remembering seeing a guy wearing them years ago when they first came out. I was interested in them but couldn't get over the way they looked (perspective definitely changes with age and maturity aka I don't care how I look anymore haha). I did a little reading on them and the research made sense. All the 'running' shoes we wear today compensate for what our bodies naturally used to make up for with muscle. From the ground up we are weakening ourselves and it causes an imbalance throughout the entire body. I'm going to try to use em as much as I can this summer :)

i had to listen to some busy bodies at work "going on" about those weird sandals they've been seeing this year...

'cept some of those new fangled sandies been around for longer than they've had beards ;)

"oh, those 5 toe thing bobbers, yeah, those are SO stupid looking, and they LOOK uncomfortable"

"yeah, i tried some on, and they just didn't fit" (probably had webbed toes) (probably had them on the wrong feet)

also, pieeeeeeeeeee
