What an awesome weekend! Getting together with the northeast crew is always a good time. Mix in some great weather, great food, and even more great company and you have a recipe for an unforgettable weekend.
I will try to re cap this as best as I can. I should have taken more pictures but with everything going on it was impossible to capture it all.
We had three new forum members attend this gathering. TheMadIndian, JWL, and J W Bensinger. All three of them were not shy about helping out and giving advice in their own way. They jumped in and helped out when needed and provided comic relief when necessary. It is great to see time and time again how personalities translate to real people vs a persona online. Time and time again we are able to shake hands and make friends with a real, like minded person. I have yet to meet someone from this forum that I have not trusted. I hope that tradition continues. TheMadIndian even brought his two kids to add to the family friendly event. I hope they had a great time (and were not too cold at night) and I hope all of you can make it to the fall gathering.
Our weekend started my leaving early Friday and taking it easy on the way down. I really hate driving and don't like being rushed so we planned a few stops to stretch our legs. We got to the cabin first and checked everything over and made sure it was presentable for the other guests. After that we hung out an waiting for people to arrive. I was more tired than I thought and quickly passed out on the couch. Becker followed suit.
Trailbum, GSOM, and JWL showed up and we started in making supper. GSOM and JWL put their brains and their talents together to make and awesome pork loin. The crew were speechless until our bellies were full.
Getting the charcoal ready.
BK-15 got some action.
Looking good!
The after affects of Mike rubbing his meat.
Let the magic begin.
While we were waiting for the pork loin to be ready JWL broke out the mead and toasted us all. He shared his mead in the traditional way. Around the campfire drinking it out of a horn. I don't drink much but I couldn't pass up drinking from a horn!
Operation lightweight is underway. We were all in good spirits after the horn made it around a few times.
After a long wait and careful monitoring, perfection!
TheMadIndian and his family rolled in around midnight. His travels were slowed by a previous obligation. They all looked really tired from the 6 hour drive so we helped them unpack their truck and showed them were the beds were.
The next morning we hung out around the campfire trying to figure out who was or was not snoring all night.
GSOM playing with his new machete while we were BSing.
We got breakfast going.
While Becker was conning trailbum out of some breakfast, TheMadIndian's oldest showed us a few useful knots.
Jason's hot mess nearly complete.
What a great start to the day.
After breakfast I was able to shoot the first of two pellet guns that I was lucky enough to shoot over the course of the weekend. I didn't get any pictures of the second, but here is the first. A very handy and packable Crossman Backpacker.
TheMadIndian's youngest making friends with Becker.
Throughout the day, J W Bensinger, Bladite, and the rest of trailbum's family showed up (minus the youngest who was on a class trip) and brought Bjames and Alwaysoutdoors. Epointer and his wife made an appearance as well. It was good to see him again.
Alwaysoutdoors has been working on some knife handles for some blade blanks. based on these results I think he needs to work his own steel and make some one of a kind originals.
Damn!
J W Bensinger and Bladite did a show and tell. I missed opportunities to take pictures of many awesome blades. Here are a few.
