Hey folks,

My wife washed my work pants and my shiro neon was still clipped to my pocket. It best itself to death in the washer/dryer. I have both scales, the blade the backdspacer and the pivot screws. The baxkspacer pins and screws, bearing retainers, and the bearings are all gone probably forever. I googled shiro customer support and arrived back at blade forums
Wtf do I do. Please help anyone that can.

Thanks
Caleb

How the heck does a Shirogorov disintegrate in a washer and dryer? I know it tosses it around a bit, but damn....RIP

Maybe some pictures would help? Perhaps of the inside of the frame where the bearings would have been.

So you have both scales (by scales I assume you mean both halves of the handle frame?), backspacer, pivot screws, and blade....I would look for some aftermarket pivot bearings and retainers (maybe on a heavily used shiro to get for cheap? If even possible), and some more backspacer pins and screws.

This sounds pretty rough, hard loss (but still salvageable!). On the bright side, you now own the cleanest shirogorov neon in existence...

If it were me, I would at least try to scavenge the bearing holders from the machine, and then buy replacement bearings themselves (would help to find at least 1 bearing to get the correct size).

I would go in and look for the missing components in the clothing you dried/washed. And after that, obviously they are IN/AROUND the washer/drier if not there (Or between those and where they were put away)

What country do you live in?

Two questions jump to mind:
  1. What sort of super-powerful washer + dryer do you have? My CRKT Eros (the old titanium one that weighs like an ounce or so) has been washed at least a half dozen times and has never been harmed.
  2. Assuming you do have some kind of turbocharged industrial mega dryer or whatever that can spin the white cells out of a vial of blood, what sort of ungodly racket does it make when it's disassembling a knife?

Screws must have just been not as tightened down ad they should be, pull my sebenzs and wallet out of the dryer every three months or do with no I'll effects.

I'm glad someone asked the important questions ..

I thought about the washer too.
Turbocharged?
Bummer though man. Contact the above gents.

Assuming it's a HE front loader (I assume you have a good washer by the knives you use) it has a trap. Parts smaller than a pinhead will get caught there. Usually two or threw screws hold the lower panel and the trap is under there.

Yea, pretty sure that is impossible. I have left several knives in a pocket through a washer and dryer many many times (the wife likes to put my pants in the washer without checking them). Never had a single issue. Knives, especially a high end one like a Shiro don't just fall apart with rough treatment. You have to physically unscrew the bolts.

Regardless of the story or circumstance, Recon 1 an authorized dealer here in the US. Perhaps they are willing to help you coordinate with Shirogorov for replacement parts. It won't be free of course, but I have no doubt they could point you in the right direction.
