Ok What Did You Get For Christmas ?

Usually I buy myself something moderately extravagent for Christmas, but this year I didn't. In fact, I didn't buy me anything as I'm in the middle of building my shop. Besides that, the wife's been out of work since Feb. and is in a career retraining program so cash flow is down a bit from the past couple of years. I did get a Bridgeport mill for my shop, and while I've been looking for months for a mill, it happened to arrive two days before Christmas so I figured that would be all I needed for Christmas and have quite happily been referring to it as my Christmas present.

The wife aparently felt differently. She went a little over the top and I'm afraid to look at the credit card bill next month. She had asked me for a list of what I wanted so I gave her a short one. She got me everything on it and then some!

To start with the knife content, she got me the Benchmade 941Ti-01 that I've been lusting for ever since the 940Ti was announced. It's even eweeter than I had hoped and truly one of the finest production folders I've ever seen. It's S30V and Titanium just like my Buck mayo, but is such a differnt knife. It's scary sharp and smooth as you could want. Ever since I held my first 941 I've thought it was one of the best overall designs I'd ever seen or held. The 941Ti-01 seems to be the ultimate execution of the 941 design, at least so far. The carbon one is cool, but somehow, the Ti one is just slightly cooler. I love the way they reworked the clip. I have to try to talk Angie at Benchmade out of one of these new clips to install on my 941D2CF.

She also got me the Surefire L4 Lumamax that I've been wanting. It has already become my default light replacing my E2E-SG. I really love the finish on the Satin Grey E2e, but the L4 is a better light. The output from this 5 watt Luxeon star LED is truly amazing. I think this is about as good as a pocket light gets at this point.

She also got me a couple video games; Halo for the PC and The Need For Speed Underground. I haven't installed Halo yet, but the graphics on NFSU with my hot rod computer are truly awesome. This is one of the first DirectX9 compliant games and really works out modern video cards. My GeForce FX5900 and P4 3.12ghz rig is just what this game demands.

The topper is that she got me not just one, but two AWESOME bottles of Single Malt Scotch. A Lagavulin 16 year old which unfortunately is getting hard to find as worldwide supplies are running down. The second is a bottle of 25 year old Campbeltown Loch. This is a truly special scotch as it a rare blended whisky offered by Springbank, whom some my recognize from other threads as my favorite distillery. I'd take a 10 year old Springbank over just about any other malt around, and the older ones are just unbelievable.

I also got a bottle of Jack from the neighbors and the new Neal Stephenson book; Quicksilver from a guy I work with. Stephenson's one of my favorite authors. I got him a Kershaw Vapor.

All in all an awesome Christmas for me.

Got a surround sound system for my television, a Nite Ize holder for my Mini Mag light, a Energizer LED/FLuoscent light, a bottle of Stetson cologne, a PE black blade Delica and I traded for a Romanian AK and a Keltec .380 pocket pistol, $20 gift certificate to Academy Sports and from work, a $100 gift certificate to Best Buy, a $20 gift certificate to Home Depot.

Haul of the year!:D :D :D

Friends and family have a tough time shopping for me so about 8 years ago, I made it simple and gave them a list of four distinct categories of gifts that will always be perfect. "Pointy and Blunt Things", "Things that go 'BOOM'", "Alcohol, Tobacco and Related Items" and "Gift Certificates" make up the categories. If the gift does not fit into one of those groups, I prolly won't like it!

From ex-girlfriend #1:
A William Barminski single-edged fixed blade. 1/8" 440C stock 7.5" bead blasted blade. 5.5" blue stained maple handle. Very light and fast. Unique "finger choil" guard. Don't know what the design was intended for but I found it very FMA friendly, especially for espada y daga. I'll post a another thread with a pic about this really cool blade and it's inherent FMA applications

From ex-girlfriend #2:
A Cold Steel Moro Barong. I've been around barongs all my life and this is THE BIGGEST BARONG I HAVE EVER SEEN! This is a BEAST! Definitely the ultimate "Caucasian Translation" of a barong. Dimensions are not tailored for Filipino hands. Freaked my mom (she's only 4'10") out when she saw it and held it. Will post another thread with pics.

From family and friends:
A CRKT PE Corkum First Strike. I'm really impressed with with it. Overall, for MSRP, there is a lot of knife for very little. Sharp factory edge. Nice attention to detail with handle. Cord wrap feel great in the hand. Might have to look into a kydex IWB sheath for EDC.

A pair of Close Node Rattan sticks from the Philippines. Tougher, heavier and stronger than standard rattan. @7/8" diameter, 30" in length with over 9 nodes per stick. Skin on, burned at ends and nodes, and varnished. These are to supplement identical set that has started to split. Lasted well over a year and a half and first cracks started showing just last week.

An aluminum handled Officers Model SAK. A S&W Pocket Protector (very cool) framelock folder. Misc. liquor bottles, mostly JD and single barrel bourbons. Some Arturo Fuente Short Stories, Onyx maduro robustos, and a really nice premium cigar sampler in a travel humidor. A Xicar cigar cutter. A carton of Sherman's MCDs. And lots of gift certificates.

Definitely one of the better Christmases I've had in years. Then again, I'm actually around for the holidays and made the shopping lists for once! I've gotta applaude the ex's for thier generosity and well thought choices. Nice to know I've left an indelible mark. Prolly ruined for the next guy!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

I got a couple of Beckers..Desert Tan BK7 and a BK10. Awesome knives..now I see why everyone was raving about them.I can't wait to put them through their paces. Also recieved a few Schrade folders, they're actually rather disappointing as far as construction and edge go, but they'll probably make good beaters. I think I've still got 4 or 5 knives on the way.

dayuhan13, I pretty much told my folks the same thing. If it is sharp and pointy, goes in a DVD player, or on a Jeep Grand Cherokee, I'll probably like it.

I picked up a large redwood burl inlaid Sebenza about three weeks ago as my early Christmas present, and been carrying it ever since. Decided I also needed an "After Christmas Present" so I ordered a large Classic Sebbie, and instead of going with a wood or leather inlaid just got a plain jane version...........figured I could use the extra saved on a SF Millenium w/high power bulb to complement my E2e. That's pretty good thinking on my part!  :D.

My wife and son surprised me this morning with a wireless radio-controlled weather station, much to my delight. I'm a 7th grade science teacher and the weather is my absolute favorite topic to teach!

I'm a very, VERY blessed man!!:) :) :)

My GF got me some air-tac waterproof boots, and I got to have a 41-minute phone conversation with my father who disappeared a few years ago and stays hidden for some reason. We talked, didn't argue once, and he seemed to really understand for the first time ever, what I wanted to do with my life. Best Christmas ever.:) :) :)

HMMMMM, Yum!

Hey GigOne, interested in doing some cigar trades. I'd like a chance to taste a Anniversary Maduro. I've been trying to find one but most of the local cigar shops are out or only willing to sell them in 5 packs. I'm not up for blowing $85 on five cigars. Aside from the Onyx robustos and Short Stories, I've got some 1998 Series La Flor Dominicans, Dona Ines Londales, Sancho Panza maduro La Manchas, La Perla Habana maduro toros, La Gloria Cubana Wavells, C.A.O. Bella Vanilla Coronas, and a few La Aurora Preferido Deluxe #2s (maduro wrapper) resting in my humidor. The Auroras are the only thing close to the PAP maduros at $17 a pop. But 3 Sancho Panzas or '98 La Flors Run the same as well. Willing to do combinations or include cash. Let me know if you might be interested.

well, i got all sorts of great non-knife related items from my wife, but my only knife came from my mom & dad: a SOG Twitch II. great little knife, definitely destined to become an EDC. Merry Christmas, all!!!

My family has no idea about what constitutes a quality knife, but I was given an above average quality Chinese made Buck 110 knockoff. Overall, a useable beater.

Got an electric razor, some nice shirts and some good books. My kids got me some DVDs to watch.

I got a few early gifts during the month which covered the knife catagory pretty well :)

Mainly most of the family got together for the day which is probably the best part.

I had a good year present wise but my favorite gift was watching my five year old niece open her presents and and chasing her around the yard with the rc monster truck that she got me for Christmas.

Only knife I received was a chef knife that was included in the Calphalon cookware set I recieved but I'm ok with that. My family and friends know I'm pretty picky about my bladeware.
I got
Alien Quadrilogy dvd
Looney Tunes Golden Collection dvd
Perry Ellis leather car coat(very cool. Take that PETA.)
2 shirts
Pair of Levis
Socks
Cash
Wal-Mart gift card
Calphalon cookware
Nokia 3560 cell phone
RC Monster Truck
My gift to myself was a Korg Triton Studio Workstation. :D

From my girlfriend a Sypderco Endura FRN Plain edge (which I have stropped to a razor :D) and the matching trainer/ drone model

From my parents a couple of Global kitchen knives; a 20cm chefs knife and an 11cm general kitchen knife. both are amazingly good kitchen knives, very very sharp. Also a copy of Medal of Honour Delux Edition and a full size bottle of 10yr old Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch.

My sister got me a large mortar and pestle which is also very welcome (I love to cook)

My girlfriends parents got me a small R/C car, a SureFire P60 bulb assembly (I requested that!) and Tom Clancys Rainbow Six 3.

All in all I would say a very good Christmas

Happy New Year all.
