Usually I buy myself something moderately extravagent for Christmas, but this year I didn't. In fact, I didn't buy me anything as I'm in the middle of building my shop. Besides that, the wife's been out of work since Feb. and is in a career retraining program so cash flow is down a bit from the past couple of years. I did get a Bridgeport mill for my shop, and while I've been looking for months for a mill, it happened to arrive two days before Christmas so I figured that would be all I needed for Christmas and have quite happily been referring to it as my Christmas present.
The wife aparently felt differently. She went a little over the top and I'm afraid to look at the credit card bill next month. She had asked me for a list of what I wanted so I gave her a short one. She got me everything on it and then some!
To start with the knife content, she got me the Benchmade 941Ti-01 that I've been lusting for ever since the 940Ti was announced. It's even eweeter than I had hoped and truly one of the finest production folders I've ever seen. It's S30V and Titanium just like my Buck mayo, but is such a differnt knife. It's scary sharp and smooth as you could want. Ever since I held my first 941 I've thought it was one of the best overall designs I'd ever seen or held. The 941Ti-01 seems to be the ultimate execution of the 941 design, at least so far. The carbon one is cool, but somehow, the Ti one is just slightly cooler. I love the way they reworked the clip. I have to try to talk Angie at Benchmade out of one of these new clips to install on my 941D2CF.
She also got me the Surefire L4 Lumamax that I've been wanting. It has already become my default light replacing my E2E-SG. I really love the finish on the Satin Grey E2e, but the L4 is a better light. The output from this 5 watt Luxeon star LED is truly amazing. I think this is about as good as a pocket light gets at this point.
She also got me a couple video games; Halo for the PC and The Need For Speed Underground. I haven't installed Halo yet, but the graphics on NFSU with my hot rod computer are truly awesome. This is one of the first DirectX9 compliant games and really works out modern video cards. My GeForce FX5900 and P4 3.12ghz rig is just what this game demands.
The topper is that she got me not just one, but two AWESOME bottles of Single Malt Scotch. A Lagavulin 16 year old which unfortunately is getting hard to find as worldwide supplies are running down. The second is a bottle of 25 year old Campbeltown Loch. This is a truly special scotch as it a rare blended whisky offered by Springbank, whom some my recognize from other threads as my favorite distillery. I'd take a 10 year old Springbank over just about any other malt around, and the older ones are just unbelievable.
I also got a bottle of Jack from the neighbors and the new Neal Stephenson book; Quicksilver from a guy I work with. Stephenson's one of my favorite authors. I got him a Kershaw Vapor.
All in all an awesome Christmas for me.
