Okay....finally....some thoughts.

Perfect, but so dull it can't even cut paper? Yeah, something's wrong with that picture. I also think the lock isn't quite right.

Yeah fair enough. Maybe I'll just get my $ back from Knife Center, and reorder from GPK or something.

I need to be clear, I wrote this as a fairly new user to knives. I am beginning to believe that the error was more with the dealer, than the manufacturer. From what I've been told in this forum, my two NEW knives appear that they were at least, taken out of the package in the store, and at most USED in the store. It's not my intention to give DDR and HTM a negative review, merely to get some help in my situation.

As far as I know, KnifeCenter doesn't have an actual brick and mortar store, and I can't imagine an online company as established as they are actually opening and using the products they sell as "brand new". Given the amount of negative feedback and inconsistent quirks people seem to have with their Gunhammer and assuming they all didn't buy from KnifeCenter, I'd say it's most likely an issue with the HTM quality control (on the earlier batches only, supposedly).

Could be true, I have no experience. I expect I'll receive excellent customer service from HTM when I send it back in.

I'm excited to see how this plays out, it's like the nut fancy follow up video we never got.

Surely htm will send an advanced replacement right? Or is that knifecenter territory.

Normally I'd agree with you, especially if it were just blade play and that sort of thing. But dullness on TWO knives, and serious wear from the opening studs on the scales? Neither of those seem like manufacturing flaws that slipped through QC. Both are more commonly associated with use. Couple that with the story about how they misboxed the knives, which could also be explained by the knives having been removed from the boxes and used, and I have to say the knives just don't sound like NIB to me. They don't even seem like blems.

I mean, how would you explain a knife with those wear scars on the scales being a NEW knife with QC issues? How exactly does QC result in a new knife with the same kind of wear that a year-old, heavily EDC'ed knife would have?

Here's mine, which has seen regular carry for nearly a year:

While we're playing in hypotheticals: if you ran a online knife store and you had an unhappy customer that received the wrong product would you a: send him as a replacemet a blem/used/returned knife or b: open the box to make sure another issue was avoided and send him the best one you got?

Exactly my point. I think it's pretty crappy that they sent him a defective knife, and I find it very unlikely that that second knife was the best one they had. I absolutely would have checked it, and made sure it was sharp, without bladeplay, and without visible wear damage. The fact that they clearly didn't do so is yet another reason I am inclined to blame the retailer, and not the manufacturer.

-edit- For that matter, if that defective one WERE the best one, I would notify the customer that the blades weren't up to spec, issue an immediate refund, and then go bother the manufacturer about the massive QC issue.

Yeah, I doubt I'll be posting an update just due to the snarky nature of the people that frequent the DDR/HTM forum. Unhelpful in my opinion.

Who are you referring to here? The three people I see who actually frequent the forum -- harkamus, crimsonfalcon07, and TriviaMonster -- have been nothing but helpful and polite, have agreed that there's something wrong with the FDE knife, and have tried to figure out what it is. The ones making unhelpful/snarky comments -- Ryanol and RobCamlin -- aren't regular participants in the forum, but rather guys who only seem to pop up in threads where there's a chance to say something negative about the knives.

We've got a nice little community here on the DDR/HTM subforum, and I know Darrel is always interested in user feedback and wanting to improve his products. So I hope you change your mind and continue to post updates, and don't judge "people who frequent the DDR/HTM forum" by the actions of a couple of guys who don't actually frequent the forum. :)

Neuron you're correct, the three you mentioned were very helpful. And it was not my intention to drum up another negative thread, so I think I'd rather let this die, than give the trolls a venue to...well troll. I didn't mean anything negative in relation to harkamus, crimsonfalcon07, and TriviaMonster. Crimson and I have actually been PMing pretty regularly, great guy.

What did I say that was snarky? This is the first DDR/HTM thread I've ever commented in. I actually like Darrel Ralph's work very much, but was a little discouraged with all the negatives I've been hearing about the Gunhammer. As a knife that I myself was considering buying, I thought I'd share my opinion on the situation. If I came off as snarky, I assure you that was not my intention, nor am I being a "troll". I feel that the comments I have made so far (save the last one, a poor attempt at a joke I assume no one got) have been on par with everyone else's.

Make sense. I know that, as you've stated throughout, you didn't intend this as a negative thread and that it can be frustrating to see a thread derailed and sent in a less than constructive direction. Glad to hear you're in contact with crimsonfalcon via PM, and I'm sure if KnifeCenter doesn't resolve the issue, Darrel/HTM will.

I got it. :)

I mostly had Ryanol in mind when I wrote my earlier post about people who only show up in the negative threads, since he's been singing the same one-note tune since his first post in the thread about the nutnfancy video. I apologize for lumping you in with him, although the Schrodinger joke was a bit on the snarky side (though also rather amusing for those of us with a taste for quantum mechanics humor). ;)

Haha alright, I'm glad someone did.

I'm not here to cause any trouble, nor do I wish to cause any trouble anywhere on BladeForums. I'm relatively new to this website actually, I've been reading for a while but just started posting recently. I've had a love for knives for as long as I can remember, but surrounded by people that just don't understand my passion! Until I found this place, and I'm really just here for friendly discussion and stimulating conversation with like-minded people.

It seems I owe you a belated welcome, then. I hope you'll stick around!

Well thank you, I certainly plan on it :) There aren't many other places where I can find so many great people to talk to about knives.

Now, to avoid completely hijacking dbla's thread, does anyone know if Darrel is aware of how many people are having issues? If he is, I'd be anxious to see how a re-done version of the Gunhammer turns out or how he plans to take action. (That is, if there really are that many people having problems. Could just be that I'm happening across so many by chance)
