Okay, I give up. I'm going to try a Mora.

You folks finally got to me.

Two questions:

(1) Your favorite model(s)? Pics would be appreciated.

(2) Best place to buy? I'm looking at SMKW (eknifeworks.com), but I'm sure there are plenty of other vendors.

So far, I like the fishing comfort model.

The Scout because of its blade guard.

The Morakniv.

And the Swedish Army Knife.

I'm leaning toward the first one and the last one.

If you're not concerned with traditional looks I'd recommend either the 510 or the 711 both available at ragweedforge.

I personally like the 510. The SWAK you have pictured is a great knife as well. I suggest you look into a carbon steel Mora, but the 12C27 is great steel as well.

Only one place to buy really.

Ships so quick it will blow your mind.

Guyon,

Mora 780 Triflex, buy it from Ragweed forge!

Nice. Carbon steel. Differentially tempered. Nice blade guard. 4 1/8" blade.

$11.

I'm on it like buzzards on roadkill (still circling a little, but about to fly down).

Mora 2000 or 510.

It took me a while to warm up to the 510 because of the way it looks, but it's proven to be a very handy sturdy yet lightweight knife.

Are you just going to cut and whittle or any baton work? If you just use them to cut you will like them alot. If you try too much baton work like splitting you won't be too happy.
The 760 you had a picture of is good. I like the #2,711,#22,Mora 2ooo the best.

Guyon, I'm with you on your last pic, the 740 or the 780, nice thing about the Mora, you can buy a couple and decide. It's almost mandatory if you factor in the shipping cost of one knife:D Ragweedforge for everything Mora.

I like all the 6 or so I have, may as well get a few of them.
Ragweed does ship incredibly fast, it took like a week to get to the canadian arctic somehow.

Any full tang versions in carbon? The ones you mention above maybe?

The only truly full have model you will find are the wood handled versions. The plastic models come with partial tangs. The 510 has one of the longest.

Lets see if I can't find that xray somewhere.....

The 780 is the same knife as the Tri Flex without the differentially tempered steel.

It was yesterday about 3:30 pm. It broke my heart. But the bottom line is baton with a fixed blade. I will post a picture if you want to know there is no Santa.

The 840 Clipper is one of my favourites (and one of the cheapest and common Moras over here). The tang is short, but who cares? These aren't the kind of knives you want to be batoning anyway - blades too thin and too short for big pieces of wood. Moras take batoning better than a lot of other Scandis, but they still do feel apart quite often if you're batoning, shall we say, carelessly.

Yes. Pics please. Details, details details!

BTW, not to hijack this thread, but what SAK did you finally decide to get?

I like the 760, as the handle feels nice. The 510 also has a nice handle. I personally prefer the slimmer handle of the 510, but the 760 has a guard. As far as the Scout knife, the dual guard gets in the way, and the handle is quite small. You kind of lose a lot of what makes the knives nice. It would make a nice cheap dive knife though. I have only used the stainless, but it works nicely. It does not hold an edge particularly long when working w/ it, but stays sharp forever when not used because the edge will not rust away, and it also takes a very sharp edge.

I have never tried the 2000, though have wanted to.

+1 on getting them from Ragweed forge.

Edited to add, the 760 has the same handle as the Army Knife, but it is light blue in color.
