Okay, I give up. I'm going to try a Mora.

711
Before splitting pine with proper form.

After some splitting the blade pulled out of the handle and lots of play.

I know this is not the toll for this job but I wanted to get my $10s worth and see what it can do around camp besides cut and whittle. No one get on me about the proper use and how one shouldn't baton with a mora and knife abuse and so on. Scott wanted to see them. I still like moras for food prep any cutting chores and wood work. I usually split with a stout 4" er or Machete anyway. Sorry if this breaks anyones heart. The #2 wood handle has the longest stick tang and the same thing happened to that too.

I've used my 711 for the same chore (dry pine), using a power cut stroke and have also done lite bataning with it (dry pine), with no ill effects on the knife. My prefered tool for wilderness carry is the Eriksson 2000, but like you, I had to find out if the 711 would work for me as a bush knife.

anyone wanna buy me a fixed blade of any sort? i dont own one even a mora would be fine i feel the need to own atleast 1 fixed blade

No takers on the 521 over the 510?

I just prefer a good guard on a knife with plastic grips. If I used it for field dressing and that grip got bloody, it would also be pretty durn slick, I'll bet.

I personally don't like the 521 because of the guard. I use mine for carving so it really just gets in the way. However if a guard is what you like, or makes you feel more comfortable, what I like doesn't really matter now does it;):D. I've been using barrel shaped handles on scandi type knives for a long time and I'm used to them.

I like the guard on the craftsman (780) a little better. Enough so your finger won't slip, but when slicing/chopping on a cutting board, your finger still hits first, not the guard.

I have one. Great knife. Very light, very sharp, comfortable in the hand.
