Olamic Tactical

I'm not saying they are. I'm saying their old website said their fixed blades were made in Russia and their new website says everything is US made. I just read a knife news article saying in 2012 everything was brought to the US. Why don't you give Eugene a call. His number is definitely on his website. You seem like you really want to get to the bottom of it. Or maybe you just want to troll. Either way, you can get your answer if you really want. There's a "contact" link. It gives his phone number. You can also email him. No excuse for you to keep on the subject when the means to find answers to your questions have been given.

So on one page you acknowledge the heart of the knife is made in Russia and on another you insist that per their Facebook page they're 100% USA made.

I don't need to ask them anything. I'm asking you since you're here making these statements. You're the one who's made them and thus the burden of proof falls on you. Requiring proof of this isn't trolling.

I have no objection to a knife made in Russia, or the USA or another country. I do find it objectionable when someone wraps themselves in a flag for pure commercial reasons; and that includes bending language to include something assembled or finished to become something made.

Otherwise they're no better that Quartermaster.

So I'll restate again. Your thread, your facts. Onus is on you only to provide the truth.

You obviously can't read if you think that's what I said. I spelled it out for you multiple times. Anything more is on you. I genuinely don't care what you think. You wanna say Olamic is on par with Quartermaster, that's on you. I'm done with you trying to derail the thread. Take care.

Hi guys, Eugene here, Olamic co-founder (my father is the other co-founder but he doesn't have an account here). Thanks everyone for the kind words. Hope it's OK with the mods for me to chime in with some background and history.

In 2010 we started with Russian-made fixed blades, most of which are our own in-house Damascus steel. These knives are handmade entirely in Russia. In 2013 we wanted to expand into folders so we brought along Mike Vagnino as a designer/constructor and set up a small shop in Visalia, CA to make those. The Wayfarer, Wayfarer Compact, Wayfarer FL, Rainmaker, and Gambit were the first ones to come out of that shop. These are handmade except we waterjet the blade and liner outline (that's done in Idaho), no CNC involved, hand-ground blades. At the moment we do not have any computer-aided machinery and the knives are made by a team of three full time employees. We sometimes collaborate with engravers/carvers both at our shop and remotely by sending scales to get worked on. Late in 2015 we decided to offer an EDC-friendly knife at a lower price point and knew that CNC will have to be used. That's how the Wayfarer 247 came about which was released in May of 2016. The machining on this model is done in Italy but everything else is completed in California. I call this model a midtech because there's CNC involved and there are fewer custom options than on the other models. Hopefully this helps with the origins. We do use other peoples' Damascus on our folders but always cite its source (Alabama, Ponzio, Eggerling, others). So far less than 10 total pieces had our Russian-made Damascus on the blades, which was all cut and ground here.

Olamic Cutlery Inc is the official name of the company, Olamic Tactical was created to differentiate between the fixed blades and the folders. This worked well until the olamiccutlery.com site got hacked (and I haven't had the time to fix it) and now, just this week, we're forced to move olamictactical.com because the payment gateway provider is refusing to work with us since apparently we're a prohibited business under their "weapons and ammunition" policy. Anyway, the new website will be much better and clearer regarding us and who we are and what we do and all that jazz.

I'd like to invite anyone to come say hi to me at a knife show (EECKS in Miami, NYCKS in Jersey, Eugene OR show, Pasadena KnifeExpo, Blade Show, and others here and there). If you're around central california you can also come visit the shop. I'll be around most of the weekend and can be reached by PM, text message, or email for any questions. There are a number of new models coming this year, but I'd rather not discuss that here, since this is not a promotional post.

It's great to hear from the makers themselves, hopefully that'll alleviate any of the questions raised. :D

It's funny, I live in Visalia but never knew about you until now (and you've apparently moved away from here). I have a 247 on the way but, if you're still somewhat local to that area, I'd love to come and visit your shop to see what you have!! What your shop's address? :)

Thank you! Small world. My profile address is correct - we have an office in Mountain View and the shop is in Visalia. Send me a PM to plan something!
Edit: when I say shop I mean the place where we make them, there's no storefront or anything, just to be clear.

Awesome to hear from you Gene!!!
You guys are making some kick ass blades!!

Well I was probably the first person to read your thread when you started it this morning. I refrained from responding when you went after all the other Knife companies. Just going to say I am going to try a Wayfarer 247 this year, If I could afford it I'd like one of the customs but this is more reasonable.

Sigh. Stating common complaints isn't going after anyone. Just read what's going on with these companies and you'll see that a lot of people talk about what I mentioned earlier. This is general knife discussion and I made a general knife thread and mentioned general comments that keep popping up all the time about general knife companies. That's hardly "going after" anyone. 4 pages in and there's really no reason to talk about a deleted paragraph.

Good luck with your purchase. I think once the name breaks out Olamic folders will be hard to get. There are a lot of knife enthusiasts who haven't heard the name yet. Once they see what's there a lot will at least be very interested and people will jump. As it stands most places I can find only have a couple in Stock with the exception of knifecenter and bladehq. Or maybe it was knifeworks. I don't remember. Anyway, seems those guys only have what, 5 or 6 on hand? And some of those are the bigger, more expensive models made completely in house.

So glad you chimed in to set things strait. I'm the one who sent you the wayfarer with the weak detent.i got it in the exchange section of this forums. im sure its going to be great when it comes back, the polishing on the blade and liners are amazing,as well as the engine turning.Cant wait to see your newest offerings...

Hopefully when you guys get the new site up, you guys clear up some of the things you posted here. It's obviously your business and you're more then welcome to label things as you like, but I wouldn't be trying to pass of a folder as 100% American made when the machining is done overseas. Regardless of how you mean it to come off, it just comes off as dishonest IMO. You guys seem like a great group of people, and I honestly don't think it would hurt your product one bit to be 100% open about exactly how the knives are made. Currently If I were to go to the Olamic website and read your "about us", which I have done, and let everything you have posted there sway my buying decision, only to find out later part of the knife wasn't produced in the USA at all, I would probably be kind of upset. Again, not because it matter, but because it doesn't feel to me like you're being open and honest with the consumer.

Either way I hope you guys eventually decide to bring out a smaller folder later on down the road. Good luck and thanks for answering our questions.

Thanks for the disambiguation. Well said.

Seeing as the maker has stated plainly here the knives aren't 100% USA made your spelling is flat out wrong.

Better luck next time.

For the most part, I don't care where a knife is made. Really interested in these. I just figure out how the wayfarer carries. I hope they can do a deep pocket clip, the clip they have is nice but I like my knives barely exposed. Guess I need to find out how they carry as is because I doubt they'll make a clip just for me.

One more time: several of the "common complaints" you listed are entirely subjective. You incited a flame war when you used said subjective or entirely irrelevant complaints to prop up another company as greater than. You listed all of these complaints and said,"Olamic doesn't do this". Then, you became upset when people called you on your b.s. I've see some of your other threads and they are similar in tone. Don't pretend your martyring yourself. You said some silly crap and people reacted accordingly. Own it and stop calling people trolls.

Plus one for that. I'm proud to own many quality US-made knives and have quality foreign-made pieces as well. Not interested in poorly made crap whether it's domestic or made elsewhere. I'm also not too interested in all this nonsense and argument about the source of any particular part of some knife either. Eugene stepped right to the fore and posted here explaining what was made where. All the ethical posturing by others seems like much ado about nothing.

Blues Bender's Wayfarer has me drooling for that knife. Or was it the sandwich....
