Olamic Wayfarer 247 first impressions (being returned)

Not clear where the OP bought it.

it obviously would be easier to just return it if he bought it from a dealer but I don't he did because 247's are going for $545-595 at retail.
Alrighty, thanks, I guess I was under the impression this was a "new from dealer" purchase.

No reason to doubt OP statements at all, but if I were to point such problems on a high end knife I would definitely have taken some pictures before sending the knife back.

+1 on the “Olamic will take care of you” train.

I bought a Busker awhile back with an ironwood inlay, and when I got it I saw that the inlay was lifting up from the knife slightly, so that I could slide the corner of a piece of paper between the inlay and frame.

Sent it back to Eugene, he fixed it up perfectly and was back in a matter of weeks.

I have three Olamics, one I ordered from a dealer and the other two I had built by Olamic. I have found them to be very well made with none of the issues of the op, my only issues that matters not to me is both my Wayfarer and Flash blades a so slightly off center and the Flash is just a little harder to release the lock bar than the other two. None of this a big deal, really like all three.Rainmaker 1.jpgSwish sm.jpgWayfarer 247 sm.jpg

"Little Muddy" could stand to have a bit of tinkering done to it's lock.
The detent is tough to break loose, and the framelock is also tough to unlock.
But these issues were pointed out to me by llya at the time of purchase, and I accepted the knife. It may loosen up under use (my hope); or I could always have him take another run at adjusting it.

Nice trio

I haven’t disassembled it for this exact reason. Haven’t even used it to cut anything. All I’ve done is flipped it several dozen times and fondled it.
Very good!

Bud, I would return this to the dealer.

Having to "warranty" a brand new knife, no matter how great the company, shouldn't be your first recourse. You deserve to be happy with your purchase, and returning it will be a relief for you, I think.
This. If you aren't happy with your purchase because of perceived flaws, and you are within the acceptable return policy, return the knife. You deserve to get what you expect with a new from dealer knife. You'll likely never be happy with a flawed knife right out the gate.

I did buy it from a dealer. Lamnia in Finland. Paid $430. Returning next week when usps is open shipping is gonna be pricey I bet.

They are a no hassle company...returned an Opinel 2 weeks ago.
I have 2 Olamics from them.
Remember if it's a basic knife Olamic will take it on a trade for an upgraded knife.

I've only owned one Olamic knife, and it didn't meet my personal standard for that price point. It also didn't fit my hand well, so I disclosed the aesthetic issue and priced it accordingly when I sold it.

One knife didn't sour me on the brand, but it does make me less likely to consider Olamic in the future. There's a plenty of competition in their price bracket from manufacturers who have met my expectations 100% across multiple knives (e.g. Hinderer and Medford).

I'm glad you found others that did a better job of "scratching your itch"! 👍

Still have it here’s a picture I just had it all packaged up and didn’t want to pull it out again.

Yeah I’m not really loving the pocket clip (looks great but won’t slide into work pants) and it’s not a great fit for my hands to get a four finger grip

Exactly. None of the issues are a huge deal on their own but I have knives that have much better overall quality for much less money. My microtechs (Socom elite, stitch, ultratech) are near perfect in terms of fit and finish. And my inkosi for the same price essentially was and still is flawless straight out of the box. I understand Olamic is a much smaller company without the 25+ years of experience but at this price point I expect close to perfection in terms of machining quality, fit and finish, etc. I’ll be returning it Monday.

Return for replacement or refund , if possible .

If you liked it enough to try again , ask your dealer to "cherry pick" your replacement to make sure you don't get another lemon .
