Old Buck Ads

Thanks CJ,

I'm glad to see that you and others on the forum enjoy seeing the old Buck knife ads, I know I did when I came across them looking through some old gun magazines... Now I'm looking for more buck knife ads to go along with my Buck knife collection... Buck sure did come out with some Beautiful Knives Back in the day, just as they continue to do today... Like your GEN 5 Skinner and others...

Just wondering ........... when did Buck stop using the "famous for holding an edge" slogan? And why?

Good question,... I wish I could tell you... I'm sure someone will tell us... I thought they still use that slogan...

I did some checking and the last dealer catalog that still used that slogan was 1997. Actually that year we really did not have a catalog but the paperwork we gave to dealers that year still had the slogan.
In 1998 the slogan was changed to The Edge. For Life. It was a marketing decision.

I liked the old slogan for what its worth it was almost as much of a icon as the buck name itself...

Thanks to all you who posted those old adds. I remember seeing those in outdoor/sporting/knives magazines. I especially remember the ones about the Buck pocketknives. Thanks!

I bought my first Cadet because of the add in the old American Blade I think it may have been one of the outdoor magazines. Add described how Buck used strong pivot pins to hold the blades and make it a stonger knife. At that time Schrade used a type of slip in place pin/bolster combination and it did not go thru the blade. Not for sure on how the Schrade actually worked. Bought a Buck Colt 3 blade type stockman from add Buck ran. I waited a long time it seemed for the Colt to hit the market as the add ran several months ahead of the knife being available. Bought my first 110 right before Deer season in 1977 for 20 dollars. They were on sale at the now long gone Woolco dept. store. Man, I loved those knives! Made the deer season for me that year.
